Double Days

I'm thinking about working out twice a day on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. I’m looking to build more muscle, as well as even it out.

I’m already very muscular, but for some reason, I don’t think I’m all that big. Everyone else says so, but to me I look “normal”. Is there such a thing that’s short of the opposite of bulimia? If there is such a thing, does it sound like it might apply to me?

My muscle measurements (in inches) as follows:

MUSCLE LEFT RIGHT

Bicep 16 1/2 16 1/4

Thigh 28 1/3 25 1/8

Calf (upper) 18 5/8 18 1/4

I'm a big guy (both ways), I'm 6' 3" and accoring to my home scale, I'm 260, at the YMCA I'm 237. :S I'm working on getting my fat weight down though, started running recently.

Anyway, thanks in advance, and have a good un!

I would advise against working out twice a day, just work twice as hard in one session.

The reason that you don't think you look muscular is because your tall, so even big muscles do look slightly dwarfed on your body.
It's a common occurance, NBA players often have 20" arms, but they don't look that big because of their height.

i don't think its recommended to work out twice a day... for a start you won't be resting your muscles enough... i know it's tempting sometimes but it probably won't help much

nonono. one of the biggest problems people face in making gains early on is not enough rest. if i had to name the top mistakes, that would definitely be there along with improper nutrition. people usually get over-enthusiastic and figure if they hit the gym twice a day everyday they'll explode.

remember- you grow OUTSIDE the gym, not in it.

that's why you seperate out the days. legs once a week, chest/tris, biceps, back, etc. you can split it as you wish, but typically it'll take a week. i used to do biceps twice a week before i learned =/

stick with a routine that puts about a week between doing any muscle group again. You wanna get big, then work on your diet. You wanna cut that fat out and trim down to muscle, start HIIT (look it up) training and watch the fat in your diet.

Diet and rest are as important as those weights you lift in the gym. It sounds like you have plenty of mass though. I'd imagine if you dropped 5% of your body fat, you'd be amazed at how much more muscular you'd look. To do that requires a good diet and serious cardio.

Keep plugging away in the gym.. you might want to check out the Max-OT program. I'm not endorsing it, but saying it's a good place to start and look for good ideas on how to split out your time per week.

You can work out twice a day, but I recommend against it. If you were going to become a pro body builder, and focus solely on lifting, yes. But in this case, rest is achieved between morning and afternoon workouts, along with proper nutrition and most importantly, the workouts do not include the same muscle groups. For example, Monday morning, chest, afternoon, back, Tuesday morning, legs, afternoon shoulders,... catch my drift, followed by 1-2 days rest. This kind of plan has to be thouroughly thought out and has to be tailored to your body. For example, my legs stay sore for about 6-8 days since I have strong legs. I lift around 4 sets of 8 of 1000 lbs but my chest recovers in as little a a day and a half. Yours may be different. Since you seem to already have muscle, I would do chest and back on Monday, shoulders and arms on Wed and legs on Friday. But like apeman says "less is more" and it is not quantity as all experienced lifters will tell you, it is the quality of the few exercises you do and the rest to let them recover. Once I learned that going to the gym everyday and pounding out as many exercises as I could for 2+ hours, and started focusing hard on the core lifts, getting in and out in 45 minutes, I gained alot and quickly, esp. with rest.

That is my 2 cents.
