You can work out twice a day, but I recommend against it. If you were going to become a pro body builder, and focus solely on lifting, yes. But in this case, rest is achieved between morning and afternoon workouts, along with proper nutrition and most importantly, the workouts do not include the same muscle groups. For example, Monday morning, chest, afternoon, back, Tuesday morning, legs, afternoon shoulders,... catch my drift, followed by 1-2 days rest. This kind of plan has to be thouroughly thought out and has to be tailored to your body. For example, my legs stay sore for about 6-8 days since I have strong legs. I lift around 4 sets of 8 of 1000 lbs but my chest recovers in as little a a day and a half. Yours may be different. Since you seem to already have muscle, I would do chest and back on Monday, shoulders and arms on Wed and legs on Friday. But like apeman says "less is more" and it is not quantity as all experienced lifters will tell you, it is the quality of the few exercises you do and the rest to let them recover. Once I learned that going to the gym everyday and pounding out as many exercises as I could for 2+ hours, and started focusing hard on the core lifts, getting in and out in 45 minutes, I gained alot and quickly, esp. with rest.
That is my 2 cents.
