mini road trip
Im going to Trenton, NJ with a friend and my brother to pick up a car I bought on eBay, this is gonna be on May 12. I'm planning on having the car by 3pm that day. Would that leave enough time to drive to NYC and sightsee a bit, or should we not bother trying? We want to spend the 13th in Washington DC, and then start the drive back to St. Louis in the evening. Any advice or comments?

Trenton, without traffic is just over an hour from Manhattan.
Parking in the city is a bitch, and expensive. Your best bet, park at the Trenton train station, then take the train (either NJ Transit or Amtrak) into Penn Station (its about an hour) Play inthe city and take the train back. If you have never been to NYC - it's worth the trip. Trenton to DC is about 3-4 hours .

Or, if I may plug my locality, from Trenton toward DC you will pass Philadelphia. Downtown Phila is about an hour south of Trenton. I grew up here so maybe that's why I think Philly is a great town worth visiting, seeing historic sights, excellent museums, restaurants. I love NY too and visit there often and NY is like no place else but I'm just making an alternate suggestion. Parking in Philly is not nearly as bad as NYC so I'd drive into and around town.

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately we do not have a lot of time so we will have to settle for what we can get, which is a train ride from the Philadelphia airport to Trenton as our taste of Philadelphia for now. Thanks for the suggestions, maleficent, I looked at the trains going to NYC, and I think we will leave the car and ride the train there. We will get to NYC around 5pm and have to take a train back to Trenton at 9pm. That gives us 4 hours, so where should we go?

The train gets into Penn Station, which is 33rd and 7th -- puts you smack dab -- almost in the middle of Manhattan -- the subways run everywhere from that central point.
After 5, depending on what your interests are, are window shopping on 5th avenue, you can walk into st patricks cathedral and wander around (5th and 42nd) I'm not up much on the hip bar scene or the hot ttrendy clubs - -the south street seaport - and I am drawing a blank on what subway stop it is -- is great on a nice evening -- good people watching - nice bars and restaurants -- boats. The Empire State building is on the avenue - not far from penn station -- and is open fairly late -- if it's a clear nite, it's worth the ride to the observation deck. I still cant bring myself to go down to ground zero -- too many horrific memories attached - -but others seem to think it's the thing to do. There's lots of shopping - if you are in lower manhattan - Century 21 is a dream store -- designer clothes and such at steals -
