You don't need protien Shakes!!!
**There was a study done in Canada on how much protien an athlete used compared to the average person. Tey found that an average athlete used on 30grams more of protien than any average person. That could be recouped in a table spoon of smooth peanut butter. or a cup of peanuts.
Protien shakes are over doing it and may cause issues later in the colon. And if you are healthy you will most likely live long enough to see those effects. All in Balance and Just eat the right foods **Also high protien diets like the Atkins diets can be Deadly: Atkins Info Oh, and look up the ingrediants in those energy drinks. If you see an ingrediant that says - Guarana, you may be drinking up to the equivalant of 4 Cans of coke in one DRINK!! Evils of Unlisted Caffine ------------------- Anyway - some things to chew on!!! |

Im a bicycle racer, so this comes up a lot. When I race or train for long distances (over 60 miles) Ill take 2 bottles of water (about 1.5 liter worth) and a small bottle of energy drink (about 24 oz worth) as a pick me up in the middle.
On a normal short day (25-35 miles) Ill just take one bottle of water (3/4 liter or so), and for 35 - 60 Ill take 2 (1.5 liter again). As long as I keep hydrated Im ok. Energy drinks/goo/bars actually do work though, if done right. It takes them about 20-30 minutes to kick in, but I definitely notice a performance difference both in how it feels and in my times. Btw, my energy drink of choice is cytomax, just for reference, and I'll usually race with one or two Clif Shots or GUs strapped to my stem. What I eat, I eat - though, I dont add protein to my diet during the race season, I actually add carbs - more energy. Protein is for the bodybuilders, and even then it probably doesnt really work, its the 'roids that they tend to use, the protein is probably just an excuse... |

I train in martial arts, boxing and occasionally weight lifting. I drink mostly water during and after workouts. If im doing intensive cardio before drills or training exercizes, I drink an ice cold gatorade to refresh me. People have been trying to get me off of ice cold beverages during training though. They tell me its really bad for my stomach, heart and lungs but nothing beats the feeling of and ice cold drink after a hard run or bag drill.

When I'm excercising and in normal everyday I drink milk, juice, or water. I always have one cup of coffee in the morning but I have been known to skip it sometimes. There have been times when I've been lacking in sleep and really need to stay awake for just a little longer to watch the kids or whatever it is that I am doing. Then I usually drink one of those juice energy drinks in it with caffine and guarana (lotsa caffine). When I come down though I try to go to bed. I only drink it when I need the lift and CAN'T get it by sleeping. I know they aren't good on a regular basis but I only use it once in a while, sometimes months between bottles of it.

Yeah, I've gotta agree with Plan9, but the info you're providing is poor. One tablespoon of peanut butter providing 30grams? Not even close.
Atkins diet deadly? Looks like you choose sources that related what you wanted to already believe. I'm seen too much data, way too much data, countering all of that. |

Its not the articles he posted, it is how he said it. I especially don't like the title of the post being that some people DO need them to suppliment the protein they dont get via their diet. Not playa hatin, just don't like people getting worried about nothing, and for no good reason
