eating for good mental health...
...the benefits of eating well are countless. i dont eat as well as i should, but i eat well enough to sustain an above average physique. however, when i was messing with some of my eating options i noticed some nasty side affects. like when i drastically decreased my carb intake, i got cranky and bitchy all the time. when i stopped eating red meat...i got cranky and bitchy. i eat alot of fish so i assume my brain functions are firing ok. what other tricks and/or detriments to dieting are out there that you all know of that affect mental well being?

Eating for good mental health means no more than 5 hits of acid a day.
![]() I really don't buy into Atkins type diets or completely eliminating all of one type of food. A basic diet that more or less follows the food pyramid is all any human needs. The key is not eating American sized portions all the time. Different types of food on your plate should not touch each other or it is too much. Other than that, eat what you crave. A happy stomach makes a happy mind! |

If you want to improve mental health, i suggest that you consume a lot of almonds and wheat-germ for their Vitamin E content. Flaxseed oil for omegas and green tea/blueberries for antioxidants |

Talk about eating for mental health; I'm one of those people who wakes up with the creeping awfuls every day; you know, when you feel like everything's awful, the day is hopeless and you might as well stay in bed, even when it's not really that bad. It goes away after a while, but it's a lousy way to start the day. Anyway, somebody talked me into eating yogurt daily for health a couple of weeks ago (my wife, actually) and the awfuls have decreased markedly.
I don't recommend this for everybody; maybe I was simply missing something I needed. Just wanted to use this as an example that sometimes food really can affect your mental state. |
