Forgetting
Over the past couple years I've started forgetting things. It was little things at first, mostly dealing with work. I attributed it to fatigue at first, but over time it started to become obvious that it wasn't simply fatigue.
It manifests with small things like remembering to run errands and returning calls at work. I've tried to compensate by taking notes and such but it seems like I'm just masking the problem. I've asked friends and they seem to think it's simply that I've not had a proper vacation for a few years, but that doesn't make sense to me. I'm starting to wonder if it could be depression. Has anyone else experienced this? Should I speak to a doctor or counselor, or am I just being paranoid? I'm having to rely on notes and such more and more often and I'm concerned it might start to manifest in my job performance. Thanks. |

How old are you and if you are young, it definitely is related to stress. Check your diet, exercise and sleep habits and DEFINITELY talk to a doctor if all else fails. Also check your alcohol intake and see if you have a history of mental breakdown in the family.
Most importantly, you need to be checked for Alzheimer's. |

I'm not quite sure if I am good or bad at recalling certain topics. But having been exposed to the wonderment and expansiveness of the internet's endless fountain of trivial pursuits/arguments/non-news does not help in my efforts to distinctively and actively try to attribute a memory into my mind.
So, I've taken up the habit of traveling around with a pad and pen everywhere, and I even have "digital notes" when I am online, so as the time when I encounter something interesting or important that I wish to recall, I jot it down physically/securely, and I will have that "tied red ribbon" with me always. Again, I'm not sure if this helps or hurts my memory-retention capabilities, but it sure is handy if I wish to forgot something without the mischance of never being able to retrieve of whatsoever I was thinking about precisely.

Over the past 3 years I have noticed that my memory is starting to decline. Maybe it's because I don't have the rigorous electronic reminders and such that I used to put together just like Jetee from paper to electronic. Once I stopped doing that my memory suffered.
I sometimes cannot remember details from 3 days ago. This includes what I ate, what I did, what happened. I don't worry so much about it anymore because more than likely it wasn't worth remembering anyways. Reminds me of an old Firehose lyric, "Remember the time you were trying to remember what you couldn't remember, remember?"

I am probably the most forgetful person in the world. Im serious. I forget everything. Ever since my first pregnancy I'm even more of an air head. I started taking one a day pills and trying to eat right and its been getting better. Stress makes me really forgetful, if we are going on a camping trip or leaving our apartment for more then a day I stress about bringing enough dippers, not leaving anything on in the apartment. EVERYTHING. Then I usually forget something. I cant win.

how much under 40 are you? i started to decline after around 32 or so, i had to start writing things down to remember. now, between age and massive alcohol consumption, i can't remember words and things i used to know.
could be stress, could be lack of sleep, poor diet, could honestly just be age. taking notes is not covering up the problem, it's what most of us do to remember things.

Always hard to say of course over the internet but I wouldn't be too worried about alzheimer's or such as the people around you tend to notice the changes before you do.
Otherwise, I'm going through something similar. So far for me it looks like its because I have sleep apnea. |

Get a personal organizer and see exactly how much you are forgetting. Odds are it would be smaller than you think because you notice something here and there and focus on it. It works the same way for people who think that they are dying because they have all the symptoms of some obscure disease. Take it easy, remove unneeded stress from your life, work out, take your vitamins, don't drink too much, get a good nights rest every night...
Ya know what... fuck it. Party hard, Drink in excess, smoke whatever you are given, fuck working out, fuck vitamins, fuck sleep... Screw everyone you can. Not like it's gonna matter, you aren't going to remember anyways right? (I jest)

One thing to keep in mind is that natural memory decline begins around 30, so I wouldn't worry *too* much. That said, a good diet and frequent exercise can have a positive impact on memory, and if you feel you might be depressed, that can also cause memory loss. Talk to a doctor and I'm sure you can get a good grasp on this: it's extremely unlikely that you're facing anything really serious, like early onset Alzheimer's, but do whatever you need to put your mind at ease.
