I agree the copter caps were too powerful, but I wish they could have differentiated between a ground vehicle cap and a helo cap.

As one of the better chopper pilots I've met, I can tell you that three Eryx/AT to my helo is MORE than enough to fuck me up. From the ground I've done it, and from the air I've had the misfortune of feeling it. One well-placed AT can take 85% of my chopper's health.
Had my best round the other night, too.. 92 points at end of round, 32 6 as helo pilot..

It's really just learning to understand how the mouse and keyboard relate to each other for movement when learning to fly. The forward key is the thrusters for the jet, so you'll never let go unless you're slowing down to reload missiles. The left and right keys turn the jet, but the mouse is really how you control them. Move the mouse left and right to tilt the jet, then pull up to turn. The controls are perfect for flying in the BF games, they just take some huge practice. The helicopters are even harder for most people to control. It's the same principle, however...the forward key is the copter blade, so pressing it forward will make the copter go up. Move the mouse forward to tilt the nose down...tilting the nose down will create forward thrust because of the direction of the copter rotors.
Remember: the coptor rotor is what is making the copter go, not just pressing the forward key. So if you want to move in that direction, tilt the rotors in that direction. In BF1942 and BF Vietnam, using the mouse was feasible with the jets, but in BF2 they're so fast that it helps to have a joystick. I personally don't use a joystick, but I know some people do with the jets and can't control them otherwise. I also believe that flying the copters is MUCH easier with a mouse instead of a joystick. One tip when learning to fly: go into cockpit view. It sounds silly, but when I was learning to fly the copters in 1942, I used the cockpit view. It helped me keep track of my movements and made me learn faster. Now I use the nosecam view for obvious reasons. I wish the jets flew as natural as they do in the Desert Combat mod for 1942...the jets in 1942 flew unbelievably smooth, to the point where I could do anything in them, even carpet bomb without seeing the target. The copters flew better in Desert Combat as well, but I can get over that in BF2 since they're waay more realistic now. -Lasereth

Flying choppers? or planes? there's quite the difference.
The key to chopper flight (atleast for me) is using the keyboard only, and only TAP the keys nough for you to get your desired result. You'll always be adjusting, dont hold any button (including the throttle) for more than a second or two. If you start to veer too much in one direction, tap the keys until you're properly corrected. Also you do NOT want to just hold the throttle, you'll want to be constantly adjusting your speed/thrust. As for flaying planes, they're much easier. I used WASD and the mouse to fly and its pretty damn hard to take me down. Using WASD + the arrow keys isn't as stable, the adjustments are always too much. HOWEVER if you are in an intense furball dogfight you may want to switch to WASD+arrows for short bursts because you will get sharper/harder turning/looping ability. If you have a joystick, use it for the planes, but i wouldn't use it for the chopper. Some people may disagree with me, but i've found that to be my preference. Special forces is supposed to be coming out at the end of november.

Does anyone else have problems connecting to servers in BF2?? I played one multiplayer game fine, but I haven't been able to connect to one freakin game since then.
I think that BF2 Autoloader shit screwed it. Is it supposed to launch you into the server, or what? It launches the game, but then what? Am I supposed to enter the ip/port numbers myself? I tried everything I could see, but no matter what I did I always get that fucking message saying I can't connect.

Primarily choppers, but the info with planes helps also. I'll have to try that, because I'm not consistent at flying at all. I've been practicing in the single player games to so I don't waste my teams flying capabilities. I'll be practicing tomorrow so I'll try just tapping. Thanks ObieX, any one else have any ideas for me to try?

Okay so I don't know if this should be a new thread or not. Has any one played the Battlefield 2 game on the Playstation? OMFG does this game SUCK!!! One of the guys I work with got it after he saw me playing on my comp. AHHHHH this game has NO right to be called a Battlefield game. Big blocky graphics, weird game play, and over all just not worth playing.
sorry Carn haven't logged onto a server since yesterday I'm at work. (working hard as you can tell) Do any servers come up when you update the server list? If so what are there ping rates? Also check to make sure you didn't accidentally type anything in the server name spot, even a space will kill you.

That's funny, I can fly the copters really well but can't really do anything in the jets (I mean I can keep from crashing into the ground, that's easy, but I can't accomplish anything) I never feel I have enough time to shoot things down and I even let off the throttle when lining up. But then again I always have a problem flying and shooting with copters too. My missles are always off.

I get server lists from both the ingame browser and BF2AL. They look fine, ping rates go the full range, no spaces, nothing.. Everything looks right except whenever I try to join a game it says I can't connect and that I need to check my network settings.
EDIT: I figured it out. I wasn't upgraded to patch 1.03. I only had 1.02 and that's why it wouldn't work.

I'm not sure if there was a Special Forces thread, but I'll post this info here.
The addon for BF2 is due out 11/22. EA is testing out a download distribution model with this software so you can start pre-loading right now! You need to download the appropriately named "EA Downloader" I very much believe in downloadable software and I'm happy EA is testing this out. I wasn't sure that I was going to buy this add-on anytime soon but I might as well as I really want to support EA in this endeavor. https://account.ea.com/commerce/prod...p&app=commerce

Thought I'd give this thread a bump. See what's new with everyone.
Just had one of my best games, @ 158 points. It was on large, karkland, but only 8vs8 or so. The next highest score was 90. So that's a really high score for so few people (and spread out so far). IIRC the points were normal, but it was obviously a decently long game, as we were neck and neck most of the way. I did everything from snipe to transport. So what's everyones best "normal" game? (I.E. Not sitting in the back arty striking on a 64 person game, or copter whores.) |

Alright - question about unlocks.
I am currently a Cpl and am about to hit Sgt and get the two unlocks. I unlocked the L85A1 and the G36C. I love the -36, it is bananas. The L85 isn't bad, as long as you're established in the prone. Now, I don't really want to get the cookie-cutter DAO-12, so what would you all suggest? My play style is more run-and-gun, occasionally C4-ing the wayward APC. I think the reason I stick with medic/spec ops is because of the upgraded weps, so I'd like to branch out. What would you folks pick? Has anyone done the 2x upgrades to one weapon, like the -36E for medics, for example? I've been told those can only be used on spec forces maps and by specific armies.

Hmm. I don't have Special Forces yet (slipped by during my WoW obsession) but I can give you all the information you need on the regular unlocks. The G3 assault rifle is very powerful, but the accuracy is terrible unless you're prone, and you'll give up the grenade launcher on the AK and M16 in order to get it. The M95 Sniper Rifle is for..well, snipers, so I'd steer clear of it (I'm a run and gun type also ). The MK3A1 autoshotgun is really powerful, but it's extremely small clip limits your killing spree if there's more than 2 enemies. Not to mention the engineer kit is VERY limited in usefulness unless you're on the right map with the right players. The DAO-12 is one of the best in the game and can kill an entire squad if you're a surgeon with it (me). Most people do use it on urban maps, however, so I can see how you'd want to steer clear. The PKM machine gun is waay powerful, especially when prone. Before I got back into WoW, I was using the machine guns more and more, because once you've mastered it (it's hard to master the machine guns), you become Rambo on steroids in the urban maps.
So basically, you already have the two best overall weapons unlocked. I hope my advice helps!! -Lasereth

Supposedly some Korean folks have put together a completely free BF2 type game. Vehicles, rankings, the works.
The graphics aren't bad given the small footprint of the game. This is something you could probably play on a laptop wirelessly and still have fun. It's nothing compared to BF2, but for free, it's not bad at all! I just thought I'd post in case anyone was light on cash and wanted to try a new shooter. http://www.gamersdaily.tv/index.php?...d=165&Itemid=1 Make sure to use IE for sign ups, confirm user ID and nick sep, but make sure you use the buttons otherwise it won't work on the "submit" Hopefully you'll get my new fav. bit of Engrish. Bumping this thread because I finally got it working on my machine.
I have a question about squads. I'll get onto a server sometimes and find that I can't form a squad. I'll hit the create squad button but nothing happens. Is there a server setting that limits the number of squads a team can have? Or is it something else entirely? |

Yes, there are a limited number of squads that can be created, and when there is too many, a message pops up on the screen saying you can't make any more squads.

Yeah, I've been on a server where there was 9 squads already and got the message, but the situation in particular happened when I was on a server with only 2 squads on the team and I couldn't make anymore. And I didn't get a notification. Is there a limit relative to the number of players on a team?

Hmm, I have no idea. To be honest, I only found out that there were a limited number of squads available last night when I was playing.

Ah well, it's just nice to be in a squad that's competent. It drives me nuts that I get on server and everyone's lone wolfing. Or, worse yet, some guy's a squad commander of 6 guys, but is flying around in a single person jet and the entire squad's scattered.
Squads need to do 2 things: 1. Stick together. 2. Follow orders. |

Yes it does make the experience more enjoyable. I love being able to talk to my squad members too.
btw, does anyone know if there's some kind of friends list at all? I met a really cool guy from Cali last night that I'd like to play with more, but I don't know how to get a hold of him again.

So I've been playing BF2 for about 2 months now and am totally addicted to it. The 1.2 patch just came out and the damn CS bunny hoppers have gone the way of the dodo. Amen to that.
Now if only there was something that could permanently be done about those fucking planes... guess I'll have to stick to infantry-friendly maps like Karkand. |

Okay so I started up my BF2 again a couple of days ago and found the second set of unlock able weapons. I hit Sgt and thought YES now I can unlock one of the second set of unlock able weapons, but no luck. Does any one know how to unlock those weapons. Also I loaded the expansion and that doesn't do it either.
