thats not funny, it just means they dont spend 24 hours a day whining on the forums, and actually "lern2play" for lack of a better term.

Installing now!
|
Installing now--well, patching, patching...ugh.
|
Is anyone else extremely impressed with the content and how well Blizzard handled the release? My server had zero downtime, it was awesome. The patch, was the same two patches that were released before so if you had them on your comp already, it goes really quickly.
|
I hate working nights on the release day, but she is ready to roll see you on the other side :D

You really didn't miss much not playing tonight, PT. Definitely a significant amount of server instability on quite a few servers. Hellfire is both awesome and completely retarded all at the same time. I like the demons running around and the siege equipment and all the portals, but the landscape looks EXACTLY like Blasted Lands all over again, complete with the boars that I hated the first time and have no love for in subsequent iterations.
That being said, the amount of quests available and the breadth of options amongst them are nothing short of astonishing. I split my night between grinding blood furnace and hellfire ramparts and questing and had just a blast doing both. Bombing runs are A+ (as are the ludicrously good trinkets that come as rewards from that quest line). Ramparts is a litle weak, but furnace is down right amazing. Cool fights and you get to peer down on Magtheridon from above. Pretty sweet. I'm halfway through 61, I stayed up WAY too late tonight. And I can't wait to do it again tomorrow! |

Uhh, lucky you. Installed, had the 130mb patch still on my machine. The 2.80mb patch was not. Took over an hour to download. I have no idea why. Tried to google the filename and got nothing, so I had to wait for it. At 6pm log in, goto the dark portal, all is good. Then, about an hour or 2 later, my server becomes unstable and is down every 5 minutes until after midnight. Not very well handled in my opinion. The only thing they did right was provide enough copies so that there were no shortages unless you wanted the CE. |
Sorry to hear about your problems with server stability. Altar of Storms was up and running perfectly.
Also, it's sad and awesome at the same time that I am already replacing my epics and blues with greens this early in the expansion. And yes, the bombing runs are fantastic. |
Got the following email from Blizz:

We hope you continue to enjoy your experience in World of Warcraft! *** Please do not respond to this email as all conversations on this matter would be best handled online. *** Which I interpret as "We're using the expansion to clear up our customer service backlog, tough shit." I've already installed TBC, I love my guild, & I'll be a hypocritical asshole if I don't cancel my account and give Blizzard the virtual bird. Decisions, decisions |
You're sure as hell not hurting them by cancelling, you know. Might as well just keep having fun :P
|
Run Hellfire Citadel for 2 weeks and you'll have tier 2 equivalent already. A rogue in my guild lost all of his tier 2 and his perditions from a keylogger. He was gonna quit but then saw the loot that you get in BC and simply started doing HC immediately.

My dilemma really isn't about the gear. It's all easily replacable. With the guild's help, I was MT healing on Nef 2 days after getting hacked.
I run a full set of firewall, virus, and spyware products. I also block process creation and scripts. I've analyzed Hijack This logs and come up with nothing. Ya, I could do more, but I believe that my system is considerably more secure than the average Blizzard customer. While the gear is easily outclassed in TBC, the fact that I am unable to find a security lapse makes it likely that this will occur again. Blizzard's inability or unwillingness to restore the account is what makes me reluctant to continue. That said, TBC looks pretty cool and I already have several pieces that surpass my T2. I'm somewhat ashamed that I haven't given Blizzard the virtual finger. |
I recently was asked via an email to answer a survey from WoW recently. Most of the questions surrounded around security asking if I'd be interested in a secureID/softID solution or some other multiple password system.
If it costs me more, I don't think so. If I have to do more then no I'm not interested. FWIW, It's a game, it's not my bank account. |
I seem to be on most of their shit lists after a few less than complimentary posts on their customer service forum. No suprise I didn't get the survey.
If it's simply a minimal 1 time charge for a key fob or similar, I'd pay. Getting hacked seriously cut into the fun factor of the game. I'd also be willing to lock my account to a single user license for WoW. A simple one way hash of account name and WoW key ought to be fairly secure and virtually free to implement. A choice between the 2 would be better, yet. Need portability, pay $20 for a key fob. |
my wife didn't get the survey... nor did a number of my friends, one of whom was hacked.
my point is that you've taken more than reasonable actions to protect your system and them implementing yet another layer won't make it any safer. people do online banking and other personal stuff with less security. seems kind of silly to implement something like this on virtual goods when real money and credit is far more powerful and damaging to lose. |
another point in fact that most over look. A friend of mine before i quit wow got his account jacked. they used both ventrilo and team speak.. one asshat was given control of the voice servers for a month .. your ip is logged this way .. everyones so im lead to believe.
the fool lost his account due to hacking .. which really isnt hacking. they are just using a tool to get results. there really isnt any real hackers left in the world.. most are too lazy and use someone elses creations. script kiddies i like to call them .. but i degress back to topic thing was he used the ips to snoop on peoples systems that didnt have protection and such. only thing we could think of. seeing how in two days he got his epic mount and was using alot of boe purples and blues he didnt have before and what not. after talking to the idoit for over a month, we found out hes 15 and cant afford jack. so he didnt ebay gold. then we looked over our chat logs. the officers in our guild had a mod that would time stamp and log guild and raid chat. the person whos account that got jacked, logged in on every toon then in 4 hours was back on and claimed thier stuff was gone off every toon. sigh including our guild bank toon on that account with 5k or so guild gold. after blizzard looked into it. everything mostly was restored except for the gold and the loser got his account banned. we can only think it was due to ventrilo or ts |

69 here and planning on getting 70 by Friday if work permits and then getting keyed for Karazhan this weekend. I went slow for awhile because I stayed in healing spec up to 65 and I've switched to a shadowpriest to finish off levelling, the grind has been probably 3 times as fast.

Can someone help me? I know NOTHING about WoW, but my son plays endlessly. We are having a real problem with his computer and don't know what could be causing it. While playing WoW, his computer will - for no reason - restart. We tried deleting all excess programs he never uses, Word, Excel, etc. Didn't help. We re-installed WoW. No help. We even went so far as to do a complete wipe of his hard drive, restored it to "fresh as the day it was born", then re-installed WoW again.
Nothing helped so far. I'm afraid he'll get so mad one day he'll pitch the PC off the desk. Any clues? Their "support" was less than helpful. |

I discovered that our apt just got hot enough to cause misc problems. new CPU and VGA card fans made the problems go away. |

When a computer restarts like that, it is as the others say: an insufficient/failing power supply or excess heat. My computer used to do it all the time.
