Prince of Persia 2
Last year we were treated to Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, it was a remarkable achievement, an adventure game based on a time-honoured Side-Scroller that not only lived up to it's predecessor's fame but conquered to garner a new legion of fans.
So when a sequel to such a game is announced a chorus of "HELL YEAH"'s and "OMFG MY PANTIES R WETZORZ!" are expected to be heard, and heard they are. Prince of Persia 2 seems to be a more darker and sinister iteration in the series, much like the original sequel was to the 1989 classic. Enemies seem to be human and alive, and blood spouts out vividly across the screen. UbiSoft have said that this Prince is anything but Princely as is clearly obvious from the following 3D Screenshots (right-click, "save target as"): 3D SLASH #1 3D SLASH #2 And a final one where you must click through the download process: http://www.4players.de/rendersite.ph...=&newsid=34223 And once you've changed your underwear and started breathing at a steady pace again, feast your eyes on the trailer: E3 2004 POP2 VID And then some random in-game footage: POP2 IN-GAME The plot of the game is shrouded in mystery, Farrah seems not to play a part in the story nor does the Prince's Dagger. However in the Trailer you notice his hand glows, one can assume that in POP2003 when he was cut by that blade he somehow unwittingly inherited some of it's power. Also, the design of the game looks far less Eastern and almost Western, big ships, Ancient Greek like ruins, the Prince travels far away perhaps to escape the horror he saw unleashed in POP2003? Another interesting point in the trailer is how he watches a friend die, my guess is that it is his brother and there he realises that the Sands of Time could've saved him. But that's just me drawing my own conclusions. One last thing to note is the Soundtrack, how many of you played POP2003 and thought "Damn! That's music for a game? That's high quality stuff!" well it sounds like it's back in full force! The POP2003 soundtrack is constantly playing in my MP3 player, can't wait to add some more of that flavour soon. Insofar the game very much looks like it'll live up to the standard set by it's 2003 original, whether it'll surpass it is another thing but only time will tell. I'll leave you word from the Art Director. An excellent choice from UbiSoft to have someone from this area of the game speak out: ART DIRECTOR of POP2-2004 |

The first game would have been perfect if not for the 20 minute long battle scenes that are more annoying than challenging.
I love the style of this post Mr.Deflok. The game is looking very very... very sweet indeed.

Am I the only one who immediately thought of the REAL Prince of Persia 2? I loved it... a true abandonware classic.
Anyways, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was a great game, and despite some small annoyances, I enjoyed it tremendously. Looks like this will be more of the same, and I'll definitely check it out. EDIT: Fixed the hotlink

From what I've heard, the Prince is constantly on the run from the dark forces that are trying to kill him for his actions in the previous game.
Consequently, he's having to go without sleep, he's nervous and twitchy, and he's very, very pissed.

I didn't think Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was all that great, sure it was pretty good, but not as perfect as some people make it up to be.

I am seriously hyped for this game. The first game was awesome as hell. I loved the physics and combat system. Perfect! It wasn't as revolutionary as a lot of people said, but one of its best attributes pulls it to the top of the heap: The gameplay is FUN!
From what PSM said, there are all kinds of new moves and combat stuff you can do. Awesome!

I am very much looking forward to this game. Sands of Time is my favorite game of the year and this is shaping up to top that on every level. I love the fact that they also made it much more mature.
The only gripe I had with the original game is that it wasnt persian at all, it was more arabic than anything else. They should have named it Prince of Iraq, but either way, I still cant wait. Last edited by Rdr4evr; 08-09-2004 at 12:22 AM.. |

From what I've read, combat is going to be much more prominent in the sequel, which worries me. The combat was mad fun in #1, but there was just the right amount of it. They better not turn my enviroment game into a combat platformer.

I think that a sequel would be awesome if they managed to change combat significantly. While it was pretty fun, you always managed to be fighting the same enemies the same way every other corner you went around. In short, it became too predictable.
I would love the sequel if they come up with many different types of enemies to fight. |

As combat seems to play an even larger and integral role in this sequel Ubi-Soft have released a video commenting on it:
http://www.gametrailers.com/gt_vault...a2_combat.html I too thought the combat was overly prevalent in POP but not enough to get in the way of my loving the game. |

The last rumor that I came across went like this. The Prince's fate was to die during the first game, but he managed to avoid that thanks to the Dagger. As a result, a physical manifestation of fate [known as a "Dahaka"] is hunting down the Prince to...er...seal his fate. Those trailers do look amazing, looks like this is another game that's going to be added to my collection.
