Last year we were treated to Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, it was a remarkable achievement, an adventure game based on a time-honoured Side-Scroller that not only lived up to it's predecessor's fame but conquered to garner a new legion of fans.
So when a sequel to such a game is announced a chorus of "HELL YEAH"'s and "OMFG MY PANTIES R WETZORZ!" are expected to be heard, and heard they are.
Prince of Persia 2 seems to be a more darker and sinister iteration in the series, much like the original sequel was to the 1989 classic. Enemies seem to be human and alive, and blood spouts out vividly across the screen. UbiSoft have said that this Prince is anything but Princely as is clearly obvious from the following 3D Screenshots (right-click, "save target as"):

And once you've changed your underwear and started breathing at a steady pace again, feast your eyes on the trailer:

And then some random in-game footage:
POP2 IN-GAME
The plot of the game is shrouded in mystery, Farrah seems not to play a part in the story nor does the Prince's Dagger. However in the Trailer you notice his hand glows, one can assume that in POP2003 when he was cut by that blade he somehow unwittingly inherited some of it's power. Also, the design of the game looks far less Eastern and almost Western, big ships, Ancient Greek like ruins, the Prince travels far away perhaps to escape the horror he saw unleashed in POP2003? Another interesting point in the trailer is how he watches a friend die, my guess is that it is his brother and there he realises that the Sands of Time could've saved him. But that's just me drawing my own conclusions. One last thing to note is the Soundtrack, how many of you played POP2003 and thought "Damn! That's music for a game? That's high quality stuff!" well it sounds like it's back in full force! The POP2003 soundtrack is constantly playing in my MP3 player, can't wait to add some more of that flavour soon.
Insofar the game very much looks like it'll live up to the standard set by it's 2003 original, whether it'll surpass it is another thing but only
time will tell.
I'll leave you word from the Art Director. An excellent choice from UbiSoft to have someone from this area of the game speak out:
