The last rumor that I came across went like this.
The Prince's fate was to die during the first game, but he managed to avoid that thanks to the Dagger. As a result, a physical manifestation of fate [known as a "Dahaka"] is hunting down the Prince to...er...seal his fate.
Those trailers do look amazing, looks like this is another game that's going to be added to my collection.
