I'm in a dark and scary place with only a pistol and a flashlight.
Note to self, if ever transferred to Mars, bring LARGER FLASHLIGHT. /this game rocks

Hmm, that's a good question. I guess we can count on it in the next month or so.

This game fucking rocks. It's hard as hell, but It's fun and tense! It runs like a fucking dream on my computer, so I'm very very happy.
Only complaint is the long loading time.

Yeah, that's a gripe for me too. It's not insanely long, but it makes me wonder what would happen if I were running it off of a 74 GB Raptor SATA 10,000 RPM drive, with about 1-2 GB of RAM. Hmm. Guess we'll never know.

Yeah, I'm on Delta Labs. The freakiest thing I've seen so far are Spoiler: The little flying death demon babies with the wings and shit. Those things are fucking scary. I have to go ahead and say it, this game has far more atmosphere and mood than any survival horror I've ever played, and I've played a few.

Loaded it last night. Running on a P4, 3.4Ghz with 2 Gig of RAM. I am in heaven (well, looks more like hell). I spent so much time just walking around the Marine base looking at the detail. I literally was entranced when I looked up at the tv set and watched the news.

This game pwns me. I picked it up this morning and have been playing it ever since... It runs like a dream on my system, is very purty, and scary as all hell. I keep finding myself going oh-so-slow everywhere, checking every corner for the guys I just know are going to pop out and slash me from behind.
/me goes back to playing

Guys, I gotta say this. If you downloaded and installed Catalyst 4.9 (beta), be wary in its use. I'm running an ATI 9700 Pro, and it's done all kinds of weird shit to the way that things are rendered. Really weird looking.

So I just got the game and was messing around with the System settings. I set the modes to pretty high res and quality. I restarted Doom and it quits when it goes to the black screen before the ID intro. How am I supposed to get back into the game and switch it? Shouldn't there be some type of safe mode or something?

Ahh Halx, you always were a quick one I just found the answer at the Activision FAQ, thanks though.
Peace -T EDIT: I deleted the files I was told to and I'm still not getting any luck. Here's the quote I'm going by: You must delete the doomconfig.cfg and the config.spec files from the \base folder in order to fix this problem. Note you will have to reconfigure all controls and options after doing this. Make sure you know what modes your monitor supports before setting a very high-resolution in game. Doom 3 will go as high a resolution as allowed by the Windows control panel." I left "Doomkey" A few "Pak's" and "game004". It's still quitting to the desktop..

Anyone play this with a comparable video card to mine? I am running a NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440. It's a 64mb card, so it should be ok for low settings right? The rest of my specs for my comp are all fine, but this is my bottleneck and big concern. I don't really want to go out and drop a couple of hundred bucks on a new card so I was just wondering if anyone had any luck playing with a card like this??
I don't mind playing at low settings, I just want to be able to PLAY at all. Nothing worse than really wanting a game and having to take it back because it runs like ass on your machine...

I've got it running at 1280x1024 (or whatever that setting below 1600x1200 is) with Ultra quality. Runs beautifully. Think I'll bump it up some more.

Just got done with my first real trip into the game. I must say that it pulled the sissy out of me real fast. I found myself turning the lights on and closing the windows before I even got into killing many guys.
I'd say my favorite aspect of the game so far is how 'useable' the creators made the enviornments. Monsters bashing through walls and from under stairs and their interactions with how things move is really amazing. -T

Just finished the game not more than ten minutes ago, aside from the boss being quite easy and ending short I absolutely love this game to death! Seeing Hell rendered on the Doom 3 engine is worth the purchase alone, my God is looks so damningly real.
I think the ending may be different depending on what decision you make at the comm tower regarding sending a transmission to the fleet, not sure. The game is just so good, I really felt like I'd been transported to Mars and forced to face the Horde of Evil as it ravaged the UAC base... Can't think coherrantly right now, sorry. Fuck that was epic. Last edited by Mr.Deflok; 08-05-2004 at 06:02 AM.. |

To my understanding, it makes it so the bodies of the monsters you kill don't 'dissapear', thus adding to the realism. Follow his link to the files for more info. -T
