If you were given the chance to design or re-engineer a game what would you do?
Would you create a sequal to a series?
Make a compeltely original game that you can only dream about? Or would you re-engineer a game that you expected to rule all ass and was ruined by one poorly designed feature? I think I would make the next in the Marvel vs Capcom series, but add a lot of Capcom characters that get neglected. Such as Falcon from Powerstone I/II, Dante, Lucia, and Trish, from Devil May Cry, Samanosuke from the Onimusha series, and many others. What about you guys? Note to mods- If you want to move this topic to the Nonsense board because it's hypothetical and not specifically about an aspect of a game, please don't. It will just kind of die in Nonsesnse because they probably just wouldn't care. No offense intended to Nonsense users, myself included.

Id add professor Xavier to MvC2.
But If I was reverse engineering a game it would have to be xcom1. Id up the resolution + graphics. Id add more techs that improved units...right now I think mind control and personal armor are the only options. Id mix in some syndicate 1 mods, like legs/chest/arms/head lv1, 2, and 3. |

Redo Auto Duel, and make it online. Design it with the feel of GTA as far as when outside of the vehicle and Twisted Metal when inside.
A 3D version of Archon <------- This one really need to happen, I cant understand why it hasnt.

Pirates, i'd redo pirates, with individual hirable/trainable crew members each with stats and skills. and i'd like deck crew to be visible during battles and while digging treasure on land. I'd also like it to be as non linear as possible.

I would finally make a 3d action rpg based on the shadowrun universe,The possibilities from that series for games is endless and nobody has touched it since the snes and genesis days.

Remake: X-Com UFO Defense and Terror from the Deep, but with a real-time multiplayer option, location layouts true to real life, and more civilian interaction. I wonder if that would work out...
Original: A gorgeous 2d-in-3d adventure game, except with text-based input, like the classic "Quest" games. Hell, lets remake those too.

I'd like to see Rock 'n Roll Racing remade for a next gen console. I know it's coming out for the GBA, but I'd like to see it on the GameCube or PS2. I'd like to see it have a soundtrack similar to Grand Turismo 3 where you could select which songs that you listen to.

Remember Rising Zan: Samurai Gunman on the PS? The concept and characters were great, but the graphics and execution were weak.
Don't forget Claire Redfield, in that hypothetical next MvsC!

I'd make my own, new game.
Genre: RPG/Action Combat - This leans more towards action in the sense that you control your characters movements (dodge/block attacks yourself) as well as your characters actions (slash with sword, special attack, magic, item, etc.). However, it retains the RPG roll of the dice feel when it gets down to damaging your enemy (target armor in contrast to weapon quality, character attack bonuses, enemy vulnerabilitys, magic spells, etc.), hitting your target with offensive magic (your ability to cast vs. his ability to resist), and your ability to perform special skills (pick a lock, feat of strength, etc.). Environment: Persistant state world, alternate reality ancient Japan. I.E. Samurais/Ninjas meet Dungeons and Dragons, in a world not unlike Morrowinds. Explore lost ancient forests, wander through a recluded mountain village, kill dragons deep beneath the earth, quest for that kewl katana. Character: Non-Linear. Build your own hero by choosing appearance, race (demon, human, whatever), name, skills (katana, hand to hand, fire magic, ice magic, etc.), and attributes (strength, intelligence, etc.) Story progression: Team up with any of 5 powerful houses to crush your enemies in various large scale battles to control our bastardized ancient Japan. You get the idea.

Independence War 2:EOC had a good bit of promise and I still enjoy the game as it was, though I have to admit watching the lamentably gone series Firefly brought back memories of raiding cargo convoys and somesuch. Add a persistent universe of space traffic and a more robust supply-demand trade system and do something more with the planets. Freelancer had some ideas about space traffic, communications, and planetside colonies, but it's all about the feeling of immersion in the universe.
However the biggie biggie is continuing community work on Falcon 4. Some idiots bought the rights to the F4 code (G2i) and have been sitting on it for some time. Before that, the tremendous work from the mod community turned the game into a real gem, even after the idiots at Microprose/Hasbro Interactive fired the dev team after releasing the patch that brought the sim to the level it should have been released in in the first place.

I have so many ideas for Freelancer that would make it soo much better...
For one, there needs to be the ability to have more than one ship. I would persue different playstyles a lot more if I could use more than one ship. Then there should be more ships, and the cap shouldn't be as low as it is (I think it's 30) Also, I would make Pirates of the Caribbean (PC) have non crappy controls, and I would make Dark Cloud 2 (PS2) have less sluggish and more responsive combat controls. |

I think that I would remake Wing Commander 'Privateer' In my opinion it was the best of the Wing Commandcer games, and deserves a chance with the great graphics and depth of todays systems

Remake the Ultima series.
Make a sequel to Planescape: Torment and Fallout 2. Make games based on Michael Moorcock's Elric of Melnibone and on HP Lovecraft's work. And I gotta agree, remake Privateer... what a rocking game!
