Just got my dream gaming PC - I need graphics-intense game suggestions
What are the most graphically intense PC games out there?
I just had a wicked-fast PC built for me and I want to see its limits. --------------------------------------------------------- Lian-Li P7 Aluminum Case Asus P5B Premium LGA775 Motherboard Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66GHz Aegia Physx Accelerator 4 Gigs of RAM GeForce 8800 Ultra 758MB 2x 250 GB SATA Hard Drives in striped RAID configuration Eizo Color Edge CE240W 24" LCD Monitor Microsoft/Razer habu mouse Deck Legend keyboard ---------------------------------------------------------- I ran it through 3DMark03 and it scored over 37,000! I'm maxing the settings for everything I play. So far, it's eating up every game I throw at it without slowing down - I love it!

you could play oblivion, and replace the default textures with the hi res versions, that would stress it.

You could throw supreme commander at it with everything maxed if you like strategy
You'll probably get some slowdown when you hit the unit max. My system is a little slower than yours and when i hit ~150 units it starts to slog

nice setup...
are there any games that actually use the Physx card yet? last looks showed that they weren't all that where the card was actually doing work.

I thought for once to get a system AHEAD of my needs. That's why I went for the Physx card, 4 Gigs of memory and the Eizo monitor.

Oblivion, set to it's highest settings (including 16x AA) will tax your system. Also 3DMark03 isn't really good at measuring newer cards. You may want to try a more recent version. ;-)

Flight Simulator X with all the graphics options maxed out will tax your system - Mine's almost as powerful as yours and it stumbles a bit if everything's maxed.
If you have the patience to learn to play it, and then to get to the final mission, X3 will tax the CRAP out of your system. Literally hundreds of fully rendered space fighters in a huge dogfight complete with plenty of particles from lasers and missiles flying all over. Yeah, that got slow. |

I have X3 fired up and ready to go. I bought it a while ago but put it on the shelf when it overwhelmed my last computer if I had the settings too high. That's one I'm definitely looking forward to seeing. I just installed it today.
Did I mention the aluminum Lian-Li case? I like it because it's just a little flashy. Other cases are either obscene alien sculptures or look cheap.

I am building a system like yours minus the PHYSX card. people tell me it's not worth it. I was thinking of a 24" samsung monitor but I will have to check out that Eizo. Nice case, I am gonna be getting this sweet ass case :Antec P182 Gun Metal Black 0.8mm cold rolled steel mid tower, but that lian li looks sweet too. The P182 is slick as hell, super quiet and supposedly keeps everything inside really cool.
Since I am in about the same boat as you in your system could you please let me know about the performance of your machine in taxing games?

The Antec looks quite handsome.
I like the Lian-Li cases overall - check out the designs on their website:http://www.lian-li.com/product/produ...x=1&sc_index=1 The Lian-Li PC-7s case has a nice internal layout of my case: ----------------------- but I also considered these:

longbough-
good choice on the lian li case. I have a rather older lian li aluminum case, and it's still gorgeous (though I now have an Antec 900 that I'm debating moving too for cooling options). As for the Phys-X card, I'm curious to know how that works out for you. I was itchin' to get one when they were first announced, but decided to wait a bit for the game selection to increase. Sadly, they had "over a hundred" games in the bag for soon-to-be released supporting PhysX when it came out, now well over a year later, very few have materialized and fewer still are even still on board. Granted, the price of the cards has dropped from $300 to $150, but I just don't know, especially since HavocFX middlewear does almost as good of a job without additional hardware. I'd like you to convince me it's worth it I think :-p

Y'know, after spending the price of a small Hyundai on this computer the extra $150 for the Physx card was no big deal to add. I won't convince you that it's a necessity, though.
When I installed G.R.A.W. on my earlier system and encountered some text saying the game was optimized for the Physx card - I suddenly felt like I wasn't getting the most out of the game. I'll be damned if I'm going to see that message again. You don't need a whole ton of games that require the Physx card - just one or two games you really like will convince you.

The game is GORGEOUS on the 8800. You'll find yourself just flying around near the stations and the jumpgates just to look at the detail. They also got the sense of scale right. No other spaceflight game I've ever played has made me feel like I was flying near anything truly huge, but approach a jumpgate slowly and get right up next to the ring (and fly between the ring layers) and you'll be astonished. |

it's already breathtaking!
Maxed out settings viewed at 1920x1200 ... beautiful! The sense of scale is grand!

I'm sold on DX10 no question, I'm just not sold on Vista's driver support/lineup. *sigh* I suppose we'll just have to see how that plays out...

Nice work on the Beast. I have had my Lian Li for 9 months or so and LOVE it. I got one of their higher end cases that is just insane, however, I received the A-08 yesterday from Newegg for the new comp I am building my wife. The case is more expensive, but once you build a system with one, you appreciate all the things that they thought of that you just can't get in other cases.
As for taxing the system, Oblivion is what Tom's Hardware uses to beat up their test cards. I also agree that you should use a newer version of 3dMark. Your system might not even notice it was running 03. Mine doesn't and yours is faster.

Well it's working nicely with Doom 3 set on "Ultra" (requires a minimum of 512 of video RAM) and x16 antialiasing.
Looks quite nice.
