That update about not being shipped with the sports package is kind of a bummer. I was really looking forward to 4 or 5 great games right out of the box.

I am so hyped about this. I'd pay twice that for this console. It's probably the only one I'll be getting of this generation.

Does anyone know how many games they've already got ready for it?
The DS was a bummer in the beginning due to so few games but has really blossumed. I'm really hoping the Wii will just be hot right from the beginning (the price is already a good start).

December 8th release for Europe, €249 with the same bundle as the U.S. (Japan doesn't get Wii Sports bundled).
Launch titles (from wii.nintendo.com)
Third party games available from launch to 31st March (so I assume any time in between)
Of those 3rd party games, Metal Slug Anthology, Trauma Center, TMNT are most appealing. Would like to see how the fishing game would work too. Also, there'll be I think 10 games available for purchase from the back catalogue through the Wii. Last edited by Eiresol; 09-15-2006 at 09:28 AM.. |

What do you know about the controller?
Is it gyroscopic like the Gyration wireless mouse? If so it'll take a lot of getting used to because it reads rotational movement and not translational. We instinctively think more in terms of translational motion (e.g. body english etc ...). I tried my Gyration mouse for FPS gaming ... if the poll rate were higher it might be more fun but the lag was impractical. I'm sure this won't be an issue with the Wii. |

At first I was a bit skeptical about the "wiimote" but after really seeing it in action it looks promising. I definately plan on picking one up when I can.

I have a feeling that I'll have to choose between my engagement ring and a Wii for Christmas.
I don't think other people would understand if I chose the Wii, though my SO would understand perfectly.

What, $250? That's about the cheapest as they get at launch. Once the first few shipments stop being sold as fast as they're made, it'll plummet.

I sat out in front of GameStop yesterday for 3 hours and got my Wii pre-order in. I'm not sure how necessary it will be judging by Nintendo's output predictions (and how they're exceeding them), but you never know.
I ordered: Wii Extra Wiimote Extra Nunchuck Extra Classic Controller Zelda: Twilight Princess Red Steel Call of Duty 3 I'm considering getting Rayman Raving Rabbids (or whatever it's called). It looks great, and a good replacement until WarioWare Smooth Moves comes out next year. Anybody else get a preorder? What games will you get at launch? |

Elebits is starting to look awesome. I'm gonna go for that, Zelda and Red Steel. Will wait and see how the other launch titles will shape up as before buying.

i didn't bother with the preorders. nintendo is supposed to be sending out an rediculously infinite amount, so i'm just gonna waltz right in on launch day and scoop one up.(at least i hope so)

got mine at gamestop on pre-order day. the line starting forming about 3 hours before the store opened, the last person to get a console (the 10th)arrived about 30 minutes till open.
i don't think it'll be too hard to find one initially for those willing to make several calls/stops. didn't pre-order any games though i plan to pick up twilight princess, madden, and monkey ball as soon as i see them.

Does anyone know if you have to have a memory card for the Wii? The guy at Gamestop convinced my girlfriend you HAVE to have one to play games (and be able to save, anyway). I thought the Wii had internal memory available? I know that space is used for older games you can download, but couldn't it be used for game saves as well? I just don't want to drop $60 on a damn memory card........that I can get for $20 if I used the "off brand" (i.e. Kingston, etc.)
Also, CAN you use off-brand SD cards for the Wii? It's the same thing, no?

Internal memory. The SD card slot is for uploading photos that you can make into slideshows and stuff on your tv.

It's too much. I have to squint to differentiate between GameCube and Wii graphics. It doesn't stand out as a next-gen console to me. Yes, I know they're taking a different approach than 360 and PS3, but to me it seems like it's basically a GameCube with a new method of input. I'll wait and see, but so far it doesn't looks like anything I'd be interested in.

Not next gen?
I guess it depends on what Next gen means to you. To me the Wii is the only new console that has not just added, but changed the way you play the game in a fundamental way. Instead of pressing A to swing my sword, i'm swinging my remote just like a sword. That's really what gets me excited, being able to incorporate my movements right into the game. The PS3 and 360 are just the same system with better looking games.

Unfortunately, many people think that Next Gen means better graphics.

cool. I went to a different gamestop (actually it was an EB) and they are ALSO saying that you can't save games on the Wii with the internal memory and that you MUST purchase a Nintendo memory card to be able to save. wonderful guys, wonderful. hahahaha.

To those talking about the graphics. Graphics don't mean jack. I'm with skier 100%. some of the best games I have ever played have ben sub-par on graphics. When I played Zelda Wind Waker I thought it was the best Zelda games yet. so I am not concernd about the graphics. And finaly as far a games I'm getting I am starting out with just Zelda and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance. I can only stand to buy two games at this point and I dont want to overwelm myself with a bunch of games. Last edited by THExBOY; 11-11-2006 at 06:42 PM.. |
