That update about not being shipped with the sports package is kind of a bummer. I was really looking forward to 4 or 5 great games right out of the box.

ironman 09-14-2006 01:42 PM

the sports package is embeded in the console

Want, want, want, want, want, want, want.

Gilda 09-14-2006 04:07 PM

I am so hyped about this. I'd pay twice that for this console. It's probably the only one I'll be getting of this generation.

Well, I for one would be glad to sell you one for twice the price.

Heh

Sorry.

Hopefully they sell it in Europe for €230 and not decide that once again $=€. European release date announced tommorow, hopefully a November release too.

Kaliena 09-15-2006 04:58 AM

Does anyone know how many games they've already got ready for it?

The DS was a bummer in the beginning due to so few games but has really blossumed. I'm really hoping the Wii will just be hot right from the beginning (the price is already a good start).

Eiresol 09-15-2006 05:25 AM

December 8th release for Europe, €249 with the same bundle as the U.S. (Japan doesn't get Wii Sports bundled).

Launch titles (from wii.nintendo.com)
  • Wii Sports
  • The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
  • Wario Ware: Smooth Moves
  • Excite Truck
  • Super Mario Galaxy
  • Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
  • Mario Strikers Charged
  • Big Brain Academy
  • Battalion Wars 2

Third party games available from launch to 31st March (so I assume any time in between)
  • The Ant Bully
  • Avatar: The Last Airbender
  • The Barnyard
  • Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII
  • Bust a Move Revolution
  • Call of Duty 3
  • Disney's/Pixar's Cars
  • Dance Factory
  • Disney's Chicken Little: Ace in Action
  • Disney's Meet the Robinsons
  • Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2
  • Elebits
  • Far Cry: Vengeance
  • The Godfather
  • The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy
  • GT Pro Series
  • Happy Feet
  • Ice Age 2
  • Madden NFL 07
  • Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
  • Metal Slug Anthology
  • Monster 4x4: World Circuit
  • Mortal Kombat: Armageddon
  • Need for Speed: Carbon
  • Open Season
  • Prince of Persia
  • Rampage: Total Destruction
  • Rapala Tournament Fishing
  • Rayman Raving Rabbids
  • Red Steel
  • Sidewinder
  • Sonic and the Secret Rings
  • SpongeBob SquarePants: Creature from the Krusty Krab
  • SSX
  • Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
  • Tiger Woods PGA Tour
  • Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent
  • Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam
  • Trauma Center: Second Opinion
  • World Series of Poker

Of those 3rd party games, Metal Slug Anthology, Trauma Center, TMNT are most appealing. Would like to see how the fishing game would work too.

Also, there'll be I think 10 games available for purchase from the back catalogue through the Wii.

stevie667 09-15-2006 06:55 AM

We've got a Dec 8th release in europe, can't fucking wait!

Damn i'm gona be broke over christmas

longbough 09-15-2006 06:23 PM

What do you know about the controller?

Is it gyroscopic like the Gyration wireless mouse? If so it'll take a lot of getting used to because it reads rotational movement and not translational. We instinctively think more in terms of translational motion (e.g. body english etc ...).

I tried my Gyration mouse for FPS gaming ... if the poll rate were higher it might be more fun but the lag was impractical. I'm sure this won't be an issue with the Wii.

stevie667 09-16-2006 09:05 AM

Take a look on the official wii website, its got everything you'll need on there.

Esoteric 09-17-2006 04:27 AM

At first I was a bit skeptical about the "wiimote" but after really seeing it in action it looks promising. I definately plan on picking one up when I can.

BurntToast 09-17-2006 04:57 AM

Just saw this video comparing the Wii and the PS3. Have a look... it made me laugh.

jamessh1 09-19-2006 10:31 PM

there is no comparison in regards to graphics btw the wii and ps3. but when it comes to the most interactive and creative gaming the wii is full of potential. i cant wait for launch, zelda alone means a purchase.

snowy 09-20-2006 08:35 AM

I have a feeling that I'll have to choose between my engagement ring and a Wii for Christmas.

I don't think other people would understand if I chose the Wii, though my SO would understand perfectly.

That's one lucky dude. If ever he stops appreciating you, I'll be here. :D

Lady Sage 09-24-2006 05:30 PM

I dont think I could ever justify spending that on a game system....

hulk 09-25-2006 01:10 AM

What, $250? That's about the cheapest as they get at launch. Once the first few shipments stop being sold as fast as they're made, it'll plummet.

Karby 10-09-2006 06:52 PM

i'm so late to this thread. but i've been discussing it otherwheres on the interweb and what not. but yes. it will definitely be a wii christmas for me.
exited? you betcha! :)

Latch 10-14-2006 09:36 AM

I sat out in front of GameStop yesterday for 3 hours and got my Wii pre-order in. I'm not sure how necessary it will be judging by Nintendo's output predictions (and how they're exceeding them), but you never know.

I ordered:

Wii
Extra Wiimote
Extra Nunchuck
Extra Classic Controller
Zelda: Twilight Princess
Red Steel
Call of Duty 3

I'm considering getting Rayman Raving Rabbids (or whatever it's called). It looks great, and a good replacement until WarioWare Smooth Moves comes out next year.

Anybody else get a preorder? What games will you get at launch?

hulk 10-14-2006 09:50 AM

Elebits is starting to look awesome. I'm gonna go for that, Zelda and Red Steel. Will wait and see how the other launch titles will shape up as before buying.

Karby 10-20-2006 06:22 AM

i didn't bother with the preorders. nintendo is supposed to be sending out an rediculously infinite amount, so i'm just gonna waltz right in on launch day and scoop one up.(at least i hope so:D)

irateplatypus 10-22-2006 08:47 AM

got mine at gamestop on pre-order day. the line starting forming about 3 hours before the store opened, the last person to get a console (the 10th)arrived about 30 minutes till open.

i don't think it'll be too hard to find one initially for those willing to make several calls/stops.

didn't pre-order any games though i plan to pick up twilight princess, madden, and monkey ball as soon as i see them.

Does anyone know if you have to have a memory card for the Wii? The guy at Gamestop convinced my girlfriend you HAVE to have one to play games (and be able to save, anyway). I thought the Wii had internal memory available? I know that space is used for older games you can download, but couldn't it be used for game saves as well? I just don't want to drop $60 on a damn memory card........that I can get for $20 if I used the "off brand" (i.e. Kingston, etc.)

Also, CAN you use off-brand SD cards for the Wii? It's the same thing, no?

Isnt that like rule #1 of videogames: Don't listen to the guy at gamestop?

Internal memory.

The SD card slot is for uploading photos that you can make into slideshows and stuff on your tv.

LoganSnake 10-30-2006 04:51 PM

It's too much. I have to squint to differentiate between GameCube and Wii graphics. It doesn't stand out as a next-gen console to me. Yes, I know they're taking a different approach than 360 and PS3, but to me it seems like it's basically a GameCube with a new method of input. I'll wait and see, but so far it doesn't looks like anything I'd be interested in.

skier 10-30-2006 05:12 PM

Not next gen?

I guess it depends on what Next gen means to you.

To me the Wii is the only new console that has not just added, but changed the way you play the game in a fundamental way. Instead of pressing A to swing my sword, i'm swinging my remote just like a sword. That's really what gets me excited, being able to incorporate my movements right into the game. The PS3 and 360 are just the same system with better looking games.

YaWhateva 10-30-2006 06:38 PM

Unfortunately, many people think that Next Gen means better graphics. :(

so basically we don't need a memory card to save games?

I think I read there was 512mb of internal memory. Should be more than enough to save games.

hulk 10-31-2006 05:21 AM

Internal memory, slot for a flash card and takes GameCube memory cards. You're all set.

Redjake 10-31-2006 02:18 PM

cool. I went to a different gamestop (actually it was an EB) and they are ALSO saying that you can't save games on the Wii with the internal memory and that you MUST purchase a Nintendo memory card to be able to save. wonderful guys, wonderful. hahahaha.

THExBOY 11-11-2006 06:38 PM

Hey guys I'm new to this site and a little late to this post so I am going to do all my Quotes and replys in this one post as to not litter in here so bare with me.

I got the opertunity to play Excite Truck yesterday at EB games in the mall and at first it was strange but I was amazed how fast I got used to it. It makes sence because if you think about it, when you are playing a raceing game and you get into it you move the controller subconcusly(SP). I fell right into the flow of the game and was in first place in no time.

That Add was grat. It reminds me of the Apple ones. To me the Wii is to PS3/X-Box360 as Mac is to the PC

To those talking about the graphics. Graphics don't mean jack. I'm with skier 100%. some of the best games I have ever played have ben sub-par on graphics. When I played Zelda Wind Waker I thought it was the best Zelda games yet. so I am not concernd about the graphics.

And finaly as far a games I'm getting I am starting out with just Zelda and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance. I can only stand to buy two games at this point and I dont want to overwelm myself with a bunch of games.

Senor Roboto 11-12-2006 09:13 AM

I can't wait until the 19th, I just hope the only store around here actually has some Wii's. Stupid Wal-mart >.<

Latch 11-12-2006 11:19 AM

The Gamestop I've pre-ordered from is supposed to be doing a midnight release.. I can't wait! haha
