TELUS goes on strike.... woo hoo for me
http://www.cfcn.ca/servlet/RTGAMArti...bnav=fullstory
Thats where the main story is on the news today. Not much, just a couple of words. As a employee of this great company. I figure I would lay out what the difference is, as said in the article job security is the issue. In the 100 years that Telus has been a company, it has NOT laid off a employee. My plan: I will fulfill my week of obligation with the Union and then I will be going back to work. Telus has treated me very fairly. The unions have their place and time, and for me this is quite the problem. Anyone have any thoughts on the strike? p.s. I don't want this to turn into a pro-union/anti-union debate. It is about what you think on the other points of the matter. |

My mom just quit Telus about a week ago. She was in operator services, and there is honestly nothing but bad stuff that she can say about that department at least. She knew the strike was inevitable, and that's why she got out. I think its about damn time. Telus would not give at all, and this might be the only thing to make them do it.

My phone is a Telus phone and I have enjoyed the customer service immensely. Can't really name another company that tries so hard to make me feel like a valued client.
As for job security. No one has job security anymore. This ain't the 50's Lucy.

I can't really comment as I don't work for Telus so I have no idea how true all the claims are.
All I hope (selfishly, yes) is that it doesn't screw up our work cell phones!!!! *my bad*

Well, I had a breif experience with Telus (my company was bought by them) and some of my friends work for them, and they have nothing but bad things to say about the union, and from my short experience, so do I.
The issue ultimetly comes from a former government company, staffed with a government type union, trying to be a private company.

So.... update..... I just got home from frickin picketing for five hours in the rain, wearing shorts and freezing my nuts off. The good thing now is that I cannot have children anymore, the bad thing is that I haven't had any to begin with.

Telus has had such a hot and cold relationship with it's customers for years, and it all coomes down to the lent hand not knowing what the right hand is doing. When they took over BC Tel, a lot of things took a real left turn. It got sok bad for a while that the president sent out a letter to all customers apologizing. Does anyone remember that? Sheesh!
As far as service goes, my DSL is with Telus because the price is still pretty competitive, so to echo Minx's selfish sounding words (but they aren't really ), I just hope my service keeps running. As far as the workers, I feel bad for anyone caught in turmoil like this and, without taking sides, I, just hope that Telus realizes that it's success comes at the hands of a lot of employees, some good, some not syeo good, but all that should be respected for their work. I hope it all ends soon. Peace, Pierre ps. Really, Minx, I mean it, it's not selfish. Really! Just, um, realistic.

No worries vox rox....I just know that I abandonded Telus a LONG time ago. Customer service? Please! No such thing. Although I will admit they did make a bit of an effort. We still deal with them for work and I can honestly say that I HATE HATE HATE dealing with them.
Don't mean to diss Telus...honestly I don't. I just don't have a lot of sympathy for the company itself. The people - yes.

However, here's a bit of news that I found amazing, especially since it was also on /. !! It looks like the Telus gateway was blocking all requests coming through their servers and trying to access a site called Voices For Change, a pro-union Website. Now, that REALLY sucks. So much for freedom of speech. The Edmonton sun wrote a story about it HERE that shows how shallow the Telus PR talent pool really is. Any coments on this, especially from Telus employees? Telus subscribers? I don't mean to troll, but this is kind of bizarre behaviour. Really, just my $0.02 worth. Peace, Pierre

Well regardless of the labour strife, Telus is still miles ahead of Bell and Rogers wireless. At least they honour their contracts and do so diligently. Hmmm,...was misrepresented by a Bell rate plan that didn't stipulate the basics of the rate plan,..ie minutes in a contract but still had to pay for 9 months,...sans phone And Rogers tried to bundled a friends internet, cable and cell and fucked that up royally. He still owes after they have cut him off. Why'd they cut him off? His service bundled didn't work. Now he's steamed and headed to court.
Like I said. No such thing as job security anymore. If there is anyone on this board that realizes this, it is me. Move on. Get another job. Life is short. Do the best you can do outside of the box. Maybe you'll like it.

The website that Telus blocked happened because it contained photos of members who crossed, their names, address, and phone numbers, which is a major invasion of their privacy. That is why it was blocked. And so far the only pro-union article was from the Edmonton Sun. The union calls this a lock out, Telus calls it a strike. What is it? Neither, just a "labour dispute." And heck, someone please pick me, because I'm a scab. |
