What we should do is take over the production means and methods for the production of ammo, and turn
bullets into rosebuds. That would show 'em. Proud of my mixed heritage. My next generation is mixed/improved further still. Onward and upward!

I know I have said this somewhere else here on TFP:
My Momma calls us kidlings an interesting wonderful mixture of oil and water. Greek/Scot/English/Scot/German/Scot....as far as I know. A good soup needs more than one ingrediant. I don't mind that I am a little splotchy in places. My left arm and part of my leg are albino. I have always enjoyed looking at the pretty white hairs on my left side, and the dark brown ones on my right. It's a Yin-Yang thing. |

My dad is second generation American-born German and Polish. My mom is first generation American-born Polish and Russian. She is Jewish, my dad is a "recovered Catholic"( mom was disowned at first for her choice in partner). I married an Anglo/Hungarian Protestant and our kids came from a combo of me and a test tube(my daughter has been asked if she's part Asian or part Hispanic-she's neither.)
I call myself an agnostic Jew with Pagan leanings, my sister is devout Episcopalian and my son joined his dad's church. I think, just like mixed breeds make the best pets, mixed blood can make the best person. It's hard to encapsulate yourself when you've got so many different things around you to ponder and take part in and you appreciate differences a lot more. Our backgrounds have made for some good dinner conversation. A cousin of my husband's had married a black man. Her mother "disowned" her and would not allow the man into her home. One day, the woman's sister invited their mother over for a visit. Imagine her shock when she walked in and there, sitting in wait, was the outcast daughter, her husband and their 3 year old daughter. The second sister announced she'd be out for a while, forcing everyone to get acquainted. Best thing ever-the mother grew to love her son-in-law and doted on her "mixed-blood" grandchildren. But what a shame that she had to be forced to do so because of her own narrowmindedness.

So, how's the weather in BC, my friend. It's been a few years since I've been out that way. I should be visiting my Brother in Victoria soon. Montreal is wet & rainy. Those of our TFP brethren from the South would call it cold, but you and I know better, right?

Very well said, ng. Some people get so puzzled about how I can have a sure sense of "identity" because of all my different backgrounds--I don't get how they don't go frickin' stir-crazy and bored out of their skulls because they're surrounded by people who look, talk, think, eat, and believe like they do. Shoot me in the head when that happens to me, please! I take great pride in drawing from all kinds of sources in my "identity," whatever the hell that word is supposed to mean. Lotsofmagnets has it right... I am me. There is no need for justification based on ethnicity, language, religion, nationality, or anything else.

My grandfather considered myself and my siblings as mongrels. He was a Scot and never forgave his daughter, my mom, for marrying a Kraut (something about him serving at Vimy Ridge in the Big One and there being no official peace treaty between Germany & Canada post WWII).
Yes, I have the German/Scottish mixed heritage which I guess combines Frankish and Celtic bloodlines but hardly qualifies as being a mongrel from my wife's perspective. She's Han Chinese for as far back as history can trace the Cantonese region of that world. But who knows what admixture has occured there? Northern tribes mixing with south? That would be analogous to Celt/Frank mixes. From her perspective, our children are true mixes not myself and my siblings. With caucasion and oriental bloodlines joining, we have effectively widened and deepened the resources of our familial gene pool and produced 3 sons who are tall, dark haired and caused one nurse at the flu clinic last week to state that they looked like the Jonas brothers. Now I need to google the Jonas brothers to see what she means.

The way this thread has stayed on task is great. Here is excellence in gene mixing at work, I think. Thanks for remembering, ring! IJUHP, the mongrels.

I'm a Bulldog/Shih Tzu cross. Consequently, you should take my ethnicity with a grain of salt.
People have asked me if I am Polish, Jewish, American Indian, Italian, and once, when I was wearing chinfeathers and a lipbrow, Chinese. Only one of them is accurate. Professional linguists cannot place my accent. I am part ceramic, and part rhizome. I am a meat popsicle in the night of the iron sausage. Mongrel? A purebred, pedigreed, came over on the Mayflower, but left to find a better party, mutt.
