san marino?
(one of two landlocked countries in italy...) |
are you somewhere in Rome?
Are you south of Naples?
If I was in Italy I'd be in Maranello getting a tour of the Ferrari factory and facilities. Will I meet you there?

BadNick, yes, I'm somewhere in Rome. Though I've never been there in person, I might have been.
Lindy, Naples would put me south of the 40, wouldn't it? uncle phil, you could say I'm a little landlocked. |
are you full of baloney in Bologna?
I also have a morbid fascination with Mortadella but there isn't a city with that name :( |
so, if you're in a landlocked country, you're either in san marino or the vatican...
i'm confused here... |
"Landlocked" shouldn't confuse you, uncle phil, countrywise. BadNick, you've garnered two yesses. I daresay no baloney gets stored where I am, but maybe I should google that...
genoa...
though i'm still confused after the two yeses to my guess and nick's guess above - the yes. and yay!... |
I'm sorry, uncle phil, I miscounted. BadNick has three yays under his belt. Europe, Italy, Rome. The other bits were only clues, as was that.
are you north of the Villa Borghese?
venice?
No, BadNick, I am south of there, by a little over four miles, & a bit to the east.
uncle phil, another clue, I am in Rome. |
are you a tourist attraction?
Are you waiting for uncle phil to join you at Circolo del Golf di Roma?
yes, & no.
that fountain place, i think it's trevi?
No, though where I am might be damp.
the pontine marshes?
Are you at the Aqua Claudia aqueduct?
No, & no, but like most of that aqueduct, I'm underground.
anio novus?
are you at one of the Mythraic temples?
uncle phil, I'm not on an aqueduct.
BadNick, I'm about a mile wnw of the golf course you mentioned. |
via appia antica?
are you at the Necropolis under the Vatican? (aka the Scavi)
Yes, uncle phil.
No, BadNick. Do you remember Mr. French in "Family Affair"? |
The Appian Way as it appeared in Piranesi's imagination (1756).

So...place me specifically.
the catacombs?
Yes, but not "the most venerable & most renowned of Rome" as Pope John XXIII called those of San Callisto...
oops...I thought that was a win for unc.
are you at the Catacombs of Prĉtextatus? (These are found along the via Appia, and were built at the end of 2nd century. They consist of a vast underground burial area, at first in pagan then in Christian use, housing various tombs of Christian martyrs. In the oldest parts of the complex may be found the "cubiculum of the coronation", with a rare depiction for that period of Christ being crowned with thorns, and a 4th century painting of Susanna and the old men in the allegorical guise of a lamb and wolves.) |
i hear all these yeses, but no win...
i'm done... |
...?
Okay, phil, the address is on the appian way. You might have thought of Mr. French so you could approach 136. Go for it, if you aren't really done yet.
