Sorry I've been so busy to post less frequently than usual, friendly folks. I think I'll be back to my more relaxed existence over the next week or so.

Not Asia and not China.

Ourcrazymodern? 05-11-2011 05:53 PM

BadNick 05-11-2011 05:57 PM

uncle phil 05-16-2011 11:41 AM

for the record, it is Bia Game Production Reserve, but i digress...

Lake Volta?

Lindy 05-16-2011 12:20 PM

Are you standing on the Akosombo Dam, which forms the superlatively largest (by surface area) man-made reservoir in the world?

BadNick 05-16-2011 04:15 PM

unc, I love records! And I thank you for that follow up since otherwise I would never have known there was such a place as Bia Game Production Reserve, where I am not.

Lake Volta would be a great clue! However, Lindy the Sleuth has found me, again!

Yes I am standing on Akosombo Dam and thank you for pointing out its superlative character. You're up again, Lindy.

In case you're wondering why I'm not in this photo, it was taken just as I fell off the back side of the dam.

Here's some facts and pics of Akosombo Dam which you can peruse until Lindy's next post.

The Akosombo Dam (also referred to as the Akosombo Hydroelectric Project) is a hydroelectric dam of the Volta River in southeastern Ghana in the Akosombo gorge and part of the Volta River Authority. The construction of the dam flooded part of the Volta River Basin, and the subsequent creation of Lake Volta. Lake Volta is the world's largest man-made lake, covering 8,502 square kilometres (3,283 sq mi), which is 3.6% of Ghana's land area.

The primary purpose of the Akosombo Dam was to provide electricity for the aluminum industry. The Akosombo Dam was called "the largest single investment in the economic development plans of Ghana." Its original electrical output was 912 MWe, which was upgraded to 1,020 MW in a retrofit project that was completed in 2006.

The flooding that created the Lake Volta reservoir displaced many people and had a significant impact on the environment.

Treading water isn't all it's cracked up to be?

BadNick 05-16-2011 04:31 PM

words of wisdom

Upon my initial investigation, this dam project seems to be nothing but full of positive benefits. But looking a bit deeper starts to show how even the seemingly obvious benefits might end up causing more harm than good. The jury is still out on this project

A still good rule of thumb is "don't fuck with Mother Nature"

BadNick gave a helpful clue about the kind of place he would choose to be. Once his location settled in Ghana, I just started looking for the biggest, or baddest, or oldest... or some other superlative, and something that he could stand on.

I don't know where I am yet. I'll find a place soon.:)
