Oceans 12 review thread *spoilers*
Well, Since I started the Blade one, I thought I'd start an Ocean's 12.
Ok, I LOVED Ocean's 11. Thought it was amazing. So, I did have lofty expectations going into Ocean's 12. For the most part, I'd say these expectations were met. The acting was excellent. The humor abounded in the film. I laughed throughout most of the movie. I do have some complaints. Bernie Mac seemed cut out of this one, but on the other hand Julia Roberts role was signifigantly increased. Matt Damon did very well. He, Pitt, and Clooney are my three favorite characters and all played their rolls to perfection. The plot was good, but I was confused at the beginning, and I wasn't a big fan of the ending. For those plot problems I have to downgrade the grade. But I'd still give it a 8.3 out of 10 just out of entertainment value.

I also had very high expectations for Oceans 12. I loved the original Oceans 11, and I really enjoyed the styalized and offbeat humor of the remake.
Oceans 12 superceded my expectations in every way. The team was hilareous, each alowing their character to develope and grow, while still remaining the same at the core. The Pitt Cloony team was inspire, as I still thought Cloony was just a face until I watched this. Damon's Linus played the newb expertly, my favorite scene being the one in the resturant with the codes (I figure that's obscure and general enough not to warrent a spoiler). Also, Catherine Zeta Jones has never looked better. I'd give this a 9/10 for true style, comic timing, and a clever writing/directing/music combonation. |

Loved the first and really loved the 2nd. Clooney...what can you say he's never looked better! All the characters improved imo. The restaurant scene was very funny.

I thought the movie did live up to my expectations. I was a little sad about Bernie mac not being too active in it as FailedEagle mentioned. So some degree I thought Andy Garcia was also cut out more than the origional. Oh well, still worth it to see.

I thought the movie was better than my expectations, sequels like that are usually set up for failure. Overall it was a good sequel, enjoyable and funny.
FailedEagle I agree with you that there was not enough Bernie Mac in it. He's probably my favorite character aside from the already mentioned Clooney, Damon, and Pitt. Bernie Mac's humor is unique and it really added something nice to the first movie, wish it was there in the second. I thought the storyline was a bit choppy and confusing, I'm still not entirely sure of everything that happened but I have an idea. Did anyone else experience the same thing? The humor was great in the movie though. I thought Matt Damon did an especially nice job with his comedic parts but the whole crew was very funny and the jokes were good. I'm glad they kept the humor in the same style as Ocean's 11. Overall yes it was good movie and a worthy sequel, I'll give it an 8/10. |

Meh, enjoyable, but as always I have some major quibbles...
1. They're totally screwed. Everyone knows who they are now and there's no way they can just go back to America. Even if Damon's parents saved them, surely the real FBI must have turned up eventually. 2. The Bruce Willis bit was ridiculous. 3. The bit where the Nightfox beats the lasers is absurd. If the ;asers were random then he only beat them by luck, not skill. Moreover, who the hell makes lasers you can see? Is it a nightclub or a museum? Still fairly enjoyable, I'm just a fastidious wanker. |

Your major quibbles are justified. The laser thing was fairly stupid but then again if you're going to pick apart things that aren't realistic then both the movies in their entireties could be argued. Bruce Willis was a bit ridiculous but I still found it to be humorous. Your first point is what I'm talking about for the choppy story. So they got arrested and then Damon's parents just got them out? It doesn't make much sense, and Zeta-Jone's character just decided not to care anymore out of the blue? Basically I'm foggy on how the story got from everyone being arrested, to the ending. How exactly did we get there?

Overall I liked it as a movie, but I'm not quite convinced that it was better than the second. the movie was shot beautifully, but the ending felt a little rushed and left me slightly confused and looking for more information, like mikeylips stated. I think it would have helped if they'd talked more about the mystery character that you only see at the end of the movie. Maybe talked a little more about his involvement.....but then again, maybe they did it like that on purpose to make that character seem unimportant.
And yes, Bernie Mac was missing for this one. Seems like they left him out on purpose. I wonder if they just simply couldn't find a role for him. I'd recommend this movie. It's got a good plot, great scenes, is well shot, and has good comedic breaks throughout. If you liked the first one, you'll like this one.

bernie mac wasnt cut out for any intentional reason, in fact he was rather ill for most of the shoot, so his part was pared down quite a bit.
personally i loved the movie, and like many others whove seen it since, the ending was a bit cramped, like they decided they wanted to make a 2 hour movie and sod all if a 3 minute conclusion was going to get in their way. that aside, pretty damn good, my usual gripes would be here except for a movie like this i tend to suspend my critical faculties ^ don't listen this.. I think I was drunk or crazy when I first saw this movie.

I enjoyed the movie a lot except for the ridiculously stupid Julia Roberts scenario. That was completely and utterly stupid. It made me want to get up a leave the theater. They took the fact that "we have a lot of popular actors in this movie" to the point of abursdity. And kept going. That part almost ruined the movie for me. If they can't take the movie seriously, I can't either.

Oceans 11 is one of my all time favorites...but Oceans 12 is somewhere near the bottom along with Love Actually. The plot was horrible...They jumped around so much you couldn't follow the movie. It also seemed as though they pulled many things out of there ass just to make the movie work. Linus' parents was a load of bull, the lasers were rediculous and the ending was horrible. Just my $.02
