bernie mac wasnt cut out for any intentional reason, in fact he was rather ill for most of the shoot, so his part was pared down quite a bit.
personally i loved the movie, and like many others whove seen it since, the ending was a bit cramped, like they decided they wanted to make a 2 hour movie and sod all if a 3 minute conclusion was going to get in their way. that aside, pretty damn good, my usual gripes would be here except for a movie like this i tend to suspend my critical faculties
