Just finished reading The Rule of Four by Ian Caldwell and Dustin Thomason. I liked it better than the da vinci code but I think that both are over-hyped.
Up next is Mortal Prey by John Sandford. Ive haven't read any of the other prey novels but the book has good reviews.

Derwood 06-24-2004 06:10 AM

Well, Fight Club took me all of 2 days to read. I was impressed with how close the movie was to the book (barring the end of course).

Now I'm reading "Eyes of the Dragon" by Stephen King.

My June issue of Wired Magazine.

In The Company of Heroes by Michael J. Durant CW4 (Ret.) with Steven Hartov

Great book, it's not just a dry reaccount of what Durant went through in those eleven days, you really feel as if you're there. I highly recommend it to everyone.

First Book in the Thomas Convenant series, again. It is really a tough series to like but once it gets going it really cooks.

BigGov 06-24-2004 09:16 PM

Finally got my summer reading from Amazon today, starting off with Animal Farm

Those are good reads, in my opinion.

I'm reading Coldfire by Dean Koontz, at the moment.

Loup 06-25-2004 08:27 AM

Half way through The Stand by Stephen King.
The "complete & uncut" version ... so I still got quite a read ahead of me.

You won't regret the time. It's a fantastic book.

Bobaphat 06-25-2004 09:13 AM

Nothing, I just finished "the last don" by Mario Puzo, so if anyone has any recommendations, let me know.

MojoRisin 06-25-2004 01:33 PM

Just finished 'The Da Vinci Code'.. reading '100 years of solitude', I recommend both books.

Atropos4 06-25-2004 04:52 PM

Hp Series again.

wonderwench 06-26-2004 10:33 AM

Most of my reading lately has been news articles and commentary. I just purchased "The Conservative Mind" by Russell Kirk, and plan to start it this afternoon. I also have "Eats, Leaves and Shoots" in my reading pile for a bit of diversion.

BigGov 06-26-2004 11:54 PM

Finished Animal Farm and it is still one of my favorites. It's similarities even today are still kind of eerie.

1984 next, then probably the Chuck Palahniuk collection.

Spanxxx 06-29-2004 11:17 AM

Just finished George R.R. Martin's : A Game of Thrones a week ago, and last night picked up book 2 of the series. I'll probably start into it tonight.

Plan on picking up the Davinci Code and maybe Angels and Demons sometime after this next book.

Reading above, I have to say that Eye of the Dragon by Stephen King was an awesome book. Also, the Sandford "Prey" series of books are all good so far, from the ones I've listened to on audio book (my other form of reading ;) )

That's a good series, nice choice.

I am in the middle of:
The Eagle's Brood by Jack Whyte
On The Road by Jack Kerouac
One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey
Morality Play by Barry Unsworth

I'm blazing through 1984. Might read Animal Farm again that's a favorite of mine.

Just finished Tupamaro Guerrillas by Maria Esther Gilio before 1984.

When I need a break from the novel I'm reading I've been working through Ansel Adams' The Camera series, currently trudging through The Negative.

Need to find the next book I want to read.

sailor 07-01-2004 06:11 AM

Im on a pulp streak right now. I had to take a break from reading "serious" literature. I was getting bogged down and needed a kick.

I just finished Michael Crichton's Prey. An entertaining read. I especially enjoyed the parts about the AI programming. Nothing too deep though, I read the whole thing in 2 days.

blindawg 07-01-2004 10:55 AM

The second book in the Mallorean seiers by David Eddings.. Can't quite recall the exact name, sad isn't it.

BigGov 07-02-2004 09:21 AM

I decided to switch it up and go with Survivor by Chuck Palahniuk, which I finished last night by reading more than two thirds of the book before going to sleep.

Great book, definately the same type of book as Fight Club as the story starts simple, then takes a very large drop in weirdness, but it oddly makes a lot of sense. It's another great book, and I hope they make a movie out of it the caliber of Fight Club because it has great potential, and a few chapters you can tell would be great in a movie (if you've read the book, you know chapter 2 could definately be a movie scene.)

Next up, the rest of the Chuck Palahniuk collection, Invisible Monsters, Choke, Lullaby, Diary.

Just finished Angels & Deamons by Dan Brown. Loved it.

I'm currently reading Naked Economics by Charles Weelan and it's fantastic so far. I'd highly recommend this book to everyone. It's a simple read and explains economics to the layman using nothing but simple language. No graphs or complicated math.

gorilla 07-02-2004 10:18 PM

not reading anything right now, but I might start Salem's Lot by Stephen King soon.

warrrreagl 07-03-2004 05:07 AM

How have I missed this thread?

Currently, I am reading three Stephen King novels simultaneously;
Dark Tower VI: Song of Susannah
Insomnia
Hearts in Atlantis

Pellaz 07-03-2004 09:52 PM

Just started Fallen Angels, the sequel to Altered Carbon. Would highly recommend the duo for anyone who likes Phillip K Dick, William Gibson, or the scifi stories prevalant in the 70's that follow the "man vs the world" conflict.

Next up will be Absolution Gap, the final volume of the revelation space trilogy, quite possible the best hard sci-fi writtin in the last 20 years.

Junky by William S. Burroughs

W. M. Gear, The Forbidden Borders Trilogy 3: Countermeasures (at home)

workin' on (link-->) The Flanders Panel by Arturo Reverte-Perez.

pretty awesome book so far. the guy's a great writer, addin' some new words to my vocab for sure :) he's pretty verbose but the descriptions are amazing.

it reminds me strongly of the da vinci code, but definitely a distinct style.

silent_jay 07-06-2004 05:35 AM

just started 1984, and before that I was reading Magic Kingdom For Sale by Terry Brooks

Polyphobic 07-06-2004 08:56 AM

The years of rice and salt by kim stanley robinson. An interesting alternate history book. The premise is "what if the black death killed 99% of the population of europe instead of 33%".

Kadath 07-06-2004 09:30 AM

I just finished Goblet of Fire. It's time for some heavy reading again. Some philosophy, perhaps. Or I could take another futile hack at Ulysses. That book makes my head spin.

Key 07-06-2004 03:43 PM

i got the audio book for goblet of fire. i need to get around to putting it on, thanks for reminding me :P

Open by John Feinstein.

teshadoh 07-06-2004 04:47 PM

new book by David Sedaris...

m0rpheus 07-07-2004 02:27 PM

right now I'm reading The Dark Tower Book Six: Song of Susannah by Stephen King.

I really love the Dark Tower series (just one more book... sniff)

Derwood 07-08-2004 06:28 AM

I'm finding "Eyes of the Dragon" to be an extraordinarily slow read, especially on the tail of reading "Song of Susannah", which I finished in 3 days.
