Dean Koontz's The Taking - just released this week.
I have been a fan of Koontz forever, there's not a book he's written that I haven't read. Most of his stories are a trifle formulatic, but each book is different enought to be entertaining. If the Taking becomes a movie, I am not going, I'd watch the entire movie from behind a pillow, it's truly terrifying in some parts, it's a rollercoaster ride of a book, it moves super fast and reads super fast. And the ending has kind of a nice moral too it. The true horror is back in this book, but it's got a nice feel good element to it too. |
A People's History of the United States: 1492 - Present by Howard Zinn
|
Transfer of Power, by Vince Flynn.
It's a Mystery/Political Thriller surrounding a CIA agent named Mitch Rapp. Kind of like Tom Clancy, but reads a bit faster. |
The Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean Auel
everybody told me that it's one of the best books ever. So far I seriously disagree. |
I'm waiting for Stephen King's, "The Song of Susanna" to come out next week.
|
Rereading Stephen Ambrose's band of Brothers. Mainly sparked by a negative comment another users made in the WWII book thread.
|
I finally caved and started reading (sigh) Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. It made me laugh a couple times in the first 30 pages, so I've decided to ride it out. Whether I stick around for the other 6 or whatever is still up in the air.

Currently reading The 900 Days The Siege of Leningrad by Harrison E. Salisbury |
I'm reading Harry Potter and The Order Of The Phoenix (3rd time).
|
Right this moment? My managerial communication textbook :(
|
Finished Sorcerer's Stone. Still trying to finish Now Wait For Last Year. Re-reading Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them.
|
The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides. almost done.
|
I'm reading a few more than I should be at the moment:
Life of Pi by Yann Martel - excellent so far, by the way The Bourne Identity by Robert Ludlum - pretty damned good Dolores Claiborne by Stephen King . . . eh, I'll finish it, at least I just finished The Green Mile again by King - very very good. There are a few more in there somewhere . . . |
Manifesting your Destiny- Wayne Dyer
|
Reefer Madness by Eric Schlosscher (the guy who wrote Fast Food Nation)
Very indepth, almost done with the first third where he talks about marijuana's history and marijuana offenders in the United States. He makes some very nice points (how if you're arrested for marijuana offenses in different counties within a state the penality can vary from $100 to 10 years in prison.) And for most of the cases where you think "that can possibly happen" he has a true story to back it up. |
I'm reading Contraband by George Foy (at home) and Relic of Empire by W. Michael Gear (on the bus).
Edit: Finished Contraband. Holy cow. George Foy is a prophet. |
Going between Beowulf and On The Road by Jack Kerouac
|
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon
Really cool first time novel. I'm loving it. |
The Stand -- Stephen King
|
Just finished Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
Currently halfway through the first book of the Wraeththu trilogy by Storm Constantine. |
Wow, I'm just cruising, finished Reefer Madness and am starting Pattern Recognition by William Gibson.
Reefer Madness was decent, but I feel the section about marijuana was far more interesting, especially how many times politicans against the legalization of drugs have children who are selling illegal drugs out of the politician's house or car. It gets to the point where you can accurately predict what's going to happen. After Pattern Recognition I have Cryptonomicon, Quicksilver, The Confussion, and the Bourne series. God I love Summer break. |
George Orwell's 1984
About 50 pages in, scary as hell. |
I am currently reading a book comprised of Chekov's plays.
And yes, 1984 is scary as hell. I get the chills every time it is mentioned. |
The Princess Bride, by William Goldman (I think...the book is in the other room at the moment, but i am pretty sure that's his name.) I have seen the movie countless times, and can quote too much of it, but this is the first time i have read the book. It is interesting to see how the movie has been adapted. The movie actually stays very true to the book, and even has dialogue straight out of it. Mostly, the difference is that they had to cut a bit out for the movie to make the story short enough.
Very very funny. |
Re-reading "Fifth Foreign Legion 1: March or Die" by Andrew Keith and William Keith.
Another future version of the FFL. Good read. |
the hunt for red october- tom clancy
I usually read sci-fi, fantasy, or historical. Thought I'd give it a change. |
Vince Flynn - Separation of Powers
He's a great writer, and I have a hard time putting his books down. |
paycheck and other classic stories by phillip k. dick.
|
Im currently reading Shogun, and im having a difficult time getting sucked into it, which surprises me because of my obsession with ancient asian culture.
|
Re-reading The Elfstones of Shannara, eyeing my finally-purchased copy of Stranger in a Strange Land with a nearly lustful eye(brilliant novel, brilliant), looking at reading Goblet of Fire , and occasionally sampling from Jane Sexes It Up which is some crazy collection of feminist sexuality essays my girlfriend got for her sister.
|
Most of the way through Fahrenheit 451, then it's on to Stephen King's IT
|
Wicked -- the life and times of the wicked witch of the west - by Gregory Maguire.
It's wonderful- -it's basically the biography of the Wicked Witch of the West from the Wizard of Oz -- The same author has another book, Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister, Cinderella told thru the stepsisters eyes... which I can't wait to read next. |
'White Wolf' by David Gemmell.
Guy writes incredible heroic fantasy. |
Quote:
I just started reading "Fight Club", but it's such a quick read that I'll probably be done today or tomorrow (only 200 pages). Next is "Eyes of the Dragon" by Stephen King while I stall until the library gets "Song of Susannah" back in. |
Tom Clancy - re-reading Clear and Present Danger
|
Re-reading John Maxim's "The Bannerman Effect"
Excellent espionage-thriller series about a group of freelance agents and defectors who have "settled down" for their retirement in a quiet conneticut community.... |
I'm now reading Battle Royale...great book!
|
Just finished Survivor by Chuck Palahniuk, and i'm about to start Pattern Recognition by William Gibson.

pattern recognition was cool. |
Finished Elfstones for the third time -- great book. Goblet of Fire is lurking in my pile, and I'm re-reading Dilbert and the Way of the Weasel as a morsel book(i.e., I read it when I have a morsel of time, like in the bathroom or during a commercial or when I only have 5 minutes before dinner). As much as I like the comic, the actual books that Scott Adams writes are pretty funny too.
