Black Spring- Henry Miller <3

m0rpheus 03-19-2004 07:32 AM

Just started on The Fifth Elephant.
It's part of Terry Prachett's Discworld series (book #25 i believe). They arent hard reads but are for the most part pretty good and damn funny. I often find myself laughing (and often groaning) out loud.

If you want to check it out pick up the first two books, The Colour of Magic, and The Light Fantastic.

Just finished "The Gunslinger" and have started "The Drawing of the Three"

PS. I love quoting my own threads!

Just started The Illuminatus! Trilogy a couple of days ago. So far (just finished the first book) I like it very much.

bltzkriegmcanon 03-19-2004 09:17 PM

I'm reading The Soulforge by Margaret Weis (again).

mirevolver 03-20-2004 11:04 PM

Actually, I'm not reading anything right now. I just finished the sixth book of the "Dune" series, by Frank Herbert (Chapterhouse: Dune). And now I am at a loss as to what I should read next.

YaWhateva 03-21-2004 12:57 AM

Japanese Inn by Olive Statler and i just finished Musui's Story by Katsu Kokichi.

Gortexfogg 03-21-2004 11:09 AM

Finished "Hunger" by Knut Hamsun today, it was a really good read. Starting to read the "Decameron" by Giovanni Boccaccio now.

illesturban 03-21-2004 01:29 PM

A Rumor of War by Philip Caputo.

I am being forced to read this for a history class but it's actually not that bad, and that's rare of me to say about a book I'm required to read. It's about the author's experience as a soldier in Vietnam and it's not that bad.

mirevolver 05-17-2004 12:53 AM

I was so frustrated after I watched the movie "Troy," that I went out a bought a copy of "The Iliad." So I'm reading that right now.

Kadath 05-17-2004 06:18 AM

Now Wait For Last Year by Dick. The description of a character going through the withdraw symptoms of a drug that alters your movement through space and time is superb. Man was a damn genius.

Polyphobic 05-17-2004 06:57 AM

Ilium by dan simmons. A sci-fi book using the greek gods from the Iliad.

guinnessgurl 05-17-2004 07:37 AM

Anna Karenina by Tolstoy

A Clockwork Orange

A friend told me it was a good book, so I had to check it out. Half the fun is deciphering the crazy hybrid Russian slang :)

Re-reading the Enders Game series. Been a few years since I've read them, and I forgot how great they actually are.

BigGov 05-22-2004 07:16 PM

Deception Point by Dan Brown

About 10% through and so far it's been pretty boring. Note to self: Why the hell am I still reading Dan Brown?

Pellaz 05-22-2004 08:48 PM

Rereading War Music-an 'interpretation' of the illiad by Christopher Logue. Highly, highly recommended for any fans of poetry or Homer.

Is this any good or is it one of those cheesy ones?

TFP I read TFP and it's enough for me.

What do you mean cheesy ones? I just finished it and I liked it.

ARTelevision 05-23-2004 11:18 AM

Woodward's "Plan of Attack."

It's good - just like the last one, "Bush at War," was good.

Woodward is a fair witness, a good journalist, and a decent historian of recent times.

FoolThemAll 05-23-2004 08:48 PM

Read Albert Camus' The Stranger.

Just about done with The Myth Of Sisyphus, which I am enjoying quite a bit.

castex 05-24-2004 02:52 AM

Rites of Passage by William Golding. It's going down a treat, an absolute hoot.

Rubyee 05-24-2004 04:42 AM

Gah, what am I not reading right now. I have a habit of starting something, forgetting about it, and starting something new.

Eragon
The Stand by Stephen King
1984 by Geroge Orwell

I also have a bunch of books coming via ebay soon, and I promised Traff I would read his Dark Elf Trilogy.

Of all his books, this was the weakest, but it was still pretty good - keep reading - it picks up

amonkie 05-24-2004 11:32 PM

Was reading The Icuras Agenda by Robert Ludlum, but it got packed into a box and haven't found it yet, so decided to pull out Louis De Bernieres' " The War of Don Emmanuel's Nether Parts". Figured something with that title on my bookshelf should make for interesting reading... here's to finding out.

I read that book about a year and a half ago, it was a great read, probably better if you weren't forced into it, because well everyone hates to read required reading. Don't watch the movie, it was okay, but nothing like the book as usual

I'm halfway and it has picked up, but overall it doesn't even come close to Angels & Demons. Hell, the Da Vinchi Code was better.
