here's what I noticed about that flick, which I'd rate about the same. It's the same story as The Godfather. Really.... it is.

Taken - 7/10
This movie tried so hard to be sentimental, but it was actually quite formulaic. That isn't to say that formulas don't work - I enjoyed it. I just felt like it was one of those "everything falls into place perfectly for the hero" deals.

Observe & Report 7/10
This movie had me rolling for a good portion of it. Definitely my kind of humor, but what really made the movie good to me was the very serious undertones involved that made it almost awkward to laugh. I think the cop walking out of the closet and saying, "I thought this would be funny, but, really, it's just kind of... sad!" spoke volumes about this movie.

Whip It-3/10
Ellen Page is undeniably cute, but she looks (is) young enough that I can't look at her without feeling like an incredible perv. Many of the other girls look pretty good in the roller derby outfits, but not enough eye candy to make up for the rest of the movie. Barrymore's directing is pedestrian at best. I imagine since she has so much money we'll be forced to sit through another one of her outings at some point in the future, but she just has no eye for anything. The shots just aren't interesting. I can't understand how you make a sport that (as far as I can tell) involves attractive girls not wearing much skating around a rink beating each other up boring, but this movie managed it in spades. The plot is equally basic and pretty much telegraphed with the first 15 minutes. The only things that save this movie are a FEW of the performances. Page acquits herself well with what she has, as does her father, and her best friend is played by Alia Shawkat (Maeby from Arrested Development) who has grown up a lot and does a great job with her part. Maybe if you really like and understand roller derby you'll like this movie more, but I kind of doubt it. |

Miss Close is really, really impressive in this thriller. Very haunting. First time I'd seen it, I was impressed! Wish I would have gotten it on DVD (rented via iTunes) because I hear the alternate ending is good too!

Couples Retreat - 7/10
I give it a generous score because I enjoyed it with a bunch of my friends. We were laughing throughout the entire movie. I don't think I'd like it as much if I were to watch it alone or with just my gf.

Kinda unbelievable sci-fi story but visually interesting and -- hey, it's sci fi and still fun. Not Danny Boyle's best, though. Doubt - 9/10 Top notch performances, engaging story, damned good.

One of the most enjoyable movies I've seen in a looooong time. No deeper meaning other than killing alot of zombies. Zombies don't deserve respect... only bullets (or axes, or car bumpers, etc).

RocknRolla 8/10
Not the best Guy Ritchie film, but still a great flick. The only real problem I had was how far he stretched to turn some of these characters into gangsters. I know that's kind of his thing, but it just came off a bit over stretched in this one. Then again, that did seem to be kind of an underlying point to this one.

I watched Unstrung Heroes again with John Turturro and Andie MacDowell. A young boy runs away to stay with his odd uncles, unable to face his father's grief and watch his mother die of a brain tumor. Father is an inventor and scientist. Mom is the understanding and loving wife and mother. Dad's brothers live together. One is intellectually challenged and the other suffers from paranoia. I watch this movie when I need some mush and I like the odd characters. Mom explains to the boy that he must love his dad, because, "it's hard being from another planet". Turturro is soo good playing off the wall uptight characters. Directed by Dianne Keaton.

The Girlfriend Experience - 8/10
This is a different kind of movie. It has many things going for it. First, the acting is "real" - people don't deliver lines like Oscar winners, they improvise them. The improv element takes a couple scenes to get used to, but you soon feel like you're watching real people. Second, the story is subtle, but well-told. If this movie had unfolded in chronological order, it would be quite flat, but Soderbergh mixes up the pieces just right. Third, the straight face of the movie makes its emotional wrinkles very effective. Forth, it is only 75 minutes.

Up (3D) - 8/10
so so funny, not a kids film, but rather an adults film you can take kids to. I didn't expect much going into it, but it really suprised me, had some lump in throat moments, and some belly laughs aswell. The 3D aspect was great, really brought the film to life, although some bits didn't flow all that well. It is quite a short film though, which was a shame. Very much recommended though.

rocky horror picture show - (yeah, i know i'm way late, but this was my first time seeing it) - i'd say 7/10, maybe 6 ... i think i need to see it again, seems like one of those movies that would grow on me
and, yet another one i'm just now getting to the big lebowski - 8.5/10, it was funny, yet confusing, but i'd watch it again.

Wow, this movie was not at all what I expected. Seth Rogen's character is not likable in the least bit. He's extremely creepy and definitely should be behind bars. His friend Dennis was the only funny thing about the movie.

Taxidermia....a Hungarian flick...horror I spose, look up the wikki or imdb on it. I was a bit scared to watch it after reading up n it. I think I saw a trailer for it on a rental somewhere.
one of those movies that leaves you thinking, damn, I can't un-see that also makes you wonder...who the hell could come up with this shit and why who would act in a movie like this ??? if your up for a freak fest, this is your movie. on a scale of 1-10 all I can say is WTF ??? however, I must say the acting, cinematography, sets and overall production was fantastic.

GI Joe - 6/10
It only got a 6 because of the sound {I LOVE my new blueray player}. I think they took most of the actors from The Mummy Returns mixed with half of them from Vantage Point, tossed a cheap script together and made this movie. The cgi is just over kill in my opinion. Its worth watching once but not a buyer. |

A Christmas Carol 6/10
Not enough of Jim Carrey came through. If it's motion capture it should be recognisably Carrey's voice and physical presence. That's surely what everyone expects and wants if they go to a movie with his name over the title. That said, if what you care about is the story rather than Carrey then you'd probably like it. But it's a story that's been adapted hundreds of times and this one doesn't have much more to offer, other than Scrooge riding into space on a massive rocket-powered candle-snuffer, suffering minituarisiation and being mistaken for a rat and other such excuses for extravagent set-pieces. It's very short though; you won't be bored whatever you think of the movie. Quote:
