Favorite Cancelled TV Shows

Don't you just hate it when you sit down to watch your favorite show and you turn on the tv and its nowhere to be found? That pisses me off... what are your favorite cancelled shows?

Mine are:

My So-Called Life
Futurama
Andy Richter Controls the Universe
Undeclared
Beavis and Butthead

Hmmmm there are a few others but I can't remember them now....

FunHater 07-30-2003 04:32 PM

Family Guy
Undeclared
Undergrads

Akira 07-30-2003 04:40 PM

Futurama
Familty Guy
(even though both are on Cartoon Network now but no new episodes)
Undeclared
Married with Children
Robotech(never finished airing it all)
anyone notice how most of those were fox shows?

hotzot 07-30-2003 05:31 PM

The Education of Max Bickford. one of the few shows my wife and I watched together.

bussman 07-30-2003 05:38 PM

Firefly and Married with Children :D

oh, and Babylon 5

drawerfixer 07-30-2003 05:48 PM

Family Guy

Beavis And Butthead

Undressed

Spartak 07-30-2003 06:11 PM

The Pretender :0

and Futurama/Family Guy etc

The_Dude 07-30-2003 06:24 PM

futurama/family guy definately tops my list.

add dark angel to that.

Katyblu 07-30-2003 06:26 PM

Oh I completely forgot about Undressed! I love that show!

frankgrimes 07-30-2003 06:40 PM

Another vote for Futurama :( .I never did get over the cancellation of a very short lived semi-obscure, early 80's misfit teen sitcom called Square Pegs, featuring a gangly young nerd named Sarah Jessica Parker. A thousand times better than Sex in the City, or so I remember it...

frankgrimes 07-30-2003 06:49 PM

...Or how about Young Indiana Jones, does anyone remember that one? I loved that show! One of my all time favorites.

LHFire 07-30-2003 06:58 PM

family guy
futurama
interesting side note.. family guy just may return in a possible movie or direct to video releases.. who knows maybe even cartoon network snatching up rights.. the dvd sales are great.. go to filmforce.ign.com to read an interview with the creator.. he alludes to possibly more family guy in the future..

GunslingerCold 07-30-2003 07:00 PM

Family Guy and Futurama have to be on the list.
Sports Night
Babylon 5 was great
The Chronicle from scifi channel
The Critic

tooka 07-30-2003 07:25 PM

best that never was, heat vision and jack

shay 07-30-2003 07:26 PM

leon2345 07-30-2003 07:35 PM

ABC never gave the show a chance

sadistikdreams 07-30-2003 08:08 PM

all of the ones you've said, and a little show called

"Clone High"

redravin40 07-30-2003 08:21 PM

Farscape...dammit

Twin Peaks

Alien Nation

shred_head 07-30-2003 08:55 PM

Most definitely Family Guy and Futurama.
Sports Night
Undeclared
The Critic
The State

hambone 07-30-2003 09:19 PM

Because I love being redundant: Family Guy.

tikki 07-30-2003 09:24 PM

Fastlane, Kingpin

BubblegumTeflon 07-30-2003 10:31 PM

Another vote for the Critic.

Sparhawk 07-31-2003 04:15 AM

Profit

Fox never gave this show a friggin chance.

wondash 07-31-2003 04:40 AM

I was so pissed when they canceled Firefly.
And of course, Futurama.

Confusum 07-31-2003 04:51 AM

you can't beat the Wonder Years

wacko 07-31-2003 05:24 AM

Definitely

Sports Night

Watching the DVD set of the 2 seasons makes me always upset that this great show was cancelled.

Parker Lewis Can't Lose

War of the Worlds

grayman 07-31-2003 11:20 AM

I echo a lot of the shows everyone else has said and add Stark Raving Mad. It was a comedy on NBC with Neil Patrick Harris and Tony Shaloub which was hilarious. They kept changing its night and it eventually died. And yet, Will & Grace is somehow still on the air. :(

crfpilot 07-31-2003 11:35 AM

Undeclared was a GREAT show, I can't believe it didn't run for a couple more seasons at least.

Titus was ok too.

Fibrosa 07-31-2003 12:56 PM

::::Cough::: uh....I always like the dungeons and dragons ::cough::

MPower 07-31-2003 01:50 PM

Sportsnight
Freaks & Geeks / Undeclared
Andy Richter
Family Guy ( this must be the default answer)

The_Jazz 07-31-2003 02:53 PM

I loved Sports Night and was really bummed when they cancelled it.

However, my absolute favorite was WKRP in Cincinnati. The Thanksgiving episode is one of the funniest things that has ever been on TV ("with God as my witness, I thought that turkeys could fly.") I taped it and we watch it every Thanksgiving.

Psivage 07-31-2003 04:48 PM

Pretender
Brimstone
Vengance Unlimited
Tick
Sleepwalkers
Wolf Lake
The Others

CaptainFluffer 07-31-2003 05:03 PM

They Wayans Brothers :(

punkgrl1984 07-31-2003 05:57 PM

Sportsnight
Ally McBeal

omnigod 07-31-2003 06:20 PM

ack, i cant remember its name, it had the 3 hackers that mulder always went for technicle help in the X-Files... That show was hillarious.

redravin40 07-31-2003 07:58 PM

That would be The Lone Gunman.
A show that should have been on my list.
And Brimestone was a great series that was cut off too soon.

Stare At The Sun 07-31-2003 08:40 PM

Wings
Family Guy

Mr Scorcex 07-31-2003 08:43 PM

I agree with Sadistik Dreams on this one. I never even got to see the last episode of Clone High, Wesley.

gnort 07-31-2003 09:17 PM

gotta say Freaks and Geeks and Sports Night

RedCometChar 07-31-2003 10:00 PM

Andy Richter, definitely. I don't think I've ever seen something with so much potential get swatted down so fast. Except the live-action Tick, maybe.

Nobody probably remembers or cares about this one, but I really used to like Buddy Faro. He was played by Dennis Farina, and he was this lounge-lizard type detective who spent the last 30 years drunk in Mexico, and consequently hadn't changed much from the swinging daddy-o type of guy he used to be back in the day. Great show, lots of style.

TheClarkster 07-31-2003 10:15 PM

Freaks and Geeks
Futurama
Family Guy
When is Freaks and Geeks coming out on DVD? If it isn't, then damnit, it should be.

Quorlan 08-01-2003 06:58 AM

Firefly had to be one of the very best sci-fi genre shows ever made. It was never given a fair chance (or even a decent time slow). A shame really.

Fagabeefe 08-01-2003 08:16 AM

Always was partial to "bosom Buddies" myself

Scratch 08-01-2003 10:13 AM

Dark Skies
Freaks and Geeks
and Central Park West - it was a train wreck, bad, but just couldnt help myself

Psivage 08-01-2003 11:21 AM

Forgot about Dark Skies. Bad thing though you miss one show and you are lost.

Gothmog 08-01-2003 02:54 PM

Firefly. I still can't believe they canceled that show.

BadForm 08-01-2003 03:06 PM

Slightly different topic

Show I wish I new about before they were cancelled: Firefly, Freeks and Geeks, and Sports Night.

I might be a little out of touch with the TV world.

oldtimer 08-01-2003 03:07 PM

Ooooooooooooh, you just had to ask.
King Arthur and the knights of justice (all time favorite)

Phantom 2040 (very cool)

The Tick (hilarious)

Sonic the hedgehog (the original series which aired on channel 8)

Going around the twist (weird britain/australian show that made me laugh)

Street Sharks (somewhat miss)

X-men - marvel style was the best; can not be replaced by "evolution"; though it is alright, i.e: Kitty/ShadowCat for obvious reasons

Iron man

The Incredible Hulk

Bots Master (You got to be old to know this one :D)

Biker Mice from Mars (You got to be old and have a really good memory just to picture this one.)

Aladdin

VR Troopers

Half the decent Power Rangers Series, i.e: The Green Ranger - Tommy with his dagger/flute. *Dooooo, do do, do do.*- flute sound.

Mummies alive

Gargoyles (I miss you Lexington. :( )

Exo-squad (Dare I say, THE BEST SHOW I EVER SAW!)

Knight Rider (Kit you shall always live on in my heart. :))

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Donatello was my hero.)

Tiny Toon Adventures (so much silliness. "Water go down the hole!" - baby Plucky Duck)

Tazmania

Eeek! the cat

The Terrible Thunderlizards

Life with Louie (You know why. It's Louie Anderson; what's not to love.)

Mega Man (the adventures they always had; not to mention his super cool ability to copy his enemies powers! :D)

Transformers (the original series. Awesome!)

GhostBusters (Never could get enough of this show.)

Earthworm Jim (Funny.)

Darkwing Duck (Yeah, I like ducks. But crime fighting ones? Oh, my.)

Duck Tales (Great adventures, not to mention they were ducks.)

TaleSpin (Very catchy theme song. Cool and funny show. Can't forget Balou or Kit with his fold away glider.)

Spider-man (Marvel kind. Not talking 1960's. But the animated series, oh my, it doesn't get any better. Shove that somewhere MTV with your nasty spoof of Spider-man. (Though Spider-man's movement and agileness is bang on) What would Stan Lee say?)

Animaniacs (Hahahahahaha. You had to watch it. "...But you're not a man, you're a chicken, Boo." *Sang pleasantly*

Freakazoid! (Great comedy even for Steven Speilberg!)

S.W.A.T Kats (Plain awesome!!!!!!!!!!!! I think the exclamation marks stress that enough, don't you?)

Invader Zim (A new kind of twisted comedy.)
Aside from all these cartoons, I'll give you something more tangible. Mind you Knight Rider & Going around the twist were live action shows.

Sliders - The possiblity of traveling to millions of different worlds through a portal that you had to slide through!

Kung Fu The Legend Continues - Slow paced. Nice action.

Viper - Ohhhh man. Did I ever have something for the Dodge Viper especially the GTS or RT 1/10. Not sure though if the "Defender" was ever made into an actual model?

The Invisible Man - How many episodes did that have? When'd it get cancelled? Being able to turn invisible at your very whim?? I wouldn't use it for evil in that sense. But I'm sure it'd come in handy, now and then.

Weird Science - Very comical. And, let's not forget the luscious Vanessa Angel. Oh my god, I hope she's still single. ;)

Arc101 08-01-2003 03:12 PM

Farscape, Farscape, Farscape, Farscape, Farscape ( the bastards)

Family Guy
(Victims of Fox's timeslot of death, postponed for absolutely anything)
Greg The Bunny
Andy Richter Controls the Universe

tardka 08-01-2003 06:45 PM

Upright Citizens Brigade. Used to show on Comedy Central, probably one of the funniest things I've ever seen, but it has to be viewed from the right light as it is often over the top. Luckily I have all of it on tape.

Katyblu 08-01-2003 06:51 PM

Misfits of Science*

*these shows I remember watching as a kid but never understood why they didn't last for very long. doing a search on google, I now know why they didn't :)

THE MAC GOD 08-01-2003 09:32 PM

Unfortunately, it is now Futurama... sniff... sniff...

Strelich 08-01-2003 10:18 PM

Andy Richter Controls the Universe
Firefly
Miracles
[the] Lone Gunmen
Futurama

There was Max Headroom, which was way before it's time, but then again Fox and ABC are quite known for tossing shows into death's door timeslots.

And, of course, Sledge Hammer. I was ten when I saw it, and I can only hope they release that one on DVD.

I would love to get it on DVD. I doubt i will have such luck.

Ok everyone, im sure nobody has heard of this, but when it was canned 10 years ago i was very sad.
'Spender' starring Jimmy Nail

tweekman 08-02-2003 03:07 PM

Futurama/Family Guy... all i can think of at the moment but im sure there are others.

Infinite Hybrid 08-02-2003 05:23 PM

Another vote for Andy Richter and a lot of the ones oldtimer mentioned. Also:

Masked Rider (One of the many Power Ranger clones Saban ported over b/c of their success with Power Rangers)
Pirates of Dark Water (brownie points of anyone remembers this gem)
Big Bad Beetleborgs
The Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog
Thundercats

EDIT: I can't believe I forgot Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future

fearofmear 08-02-2003 06:17 PM

Sports Night, Futurama, Undeclared, and a show way back in high school that was a guilty pleasure of mine, "Cupid". I still don't watch ABC except Alias because of Sports Night's cancellation.

Mr. Spacemonkey 08-02-2003 07:20 PM

A lot of good shows already mentioned, so let me add two:

Action! with Jay Mohr, pretty dark humor. Surprised given the crows here that it didn't get mentioned yet. And, surprise, another Fox move.

The State, was on MTV I believe - didn't appreciate the humor at first, but it really grew on me. "I'd like to dip my balls in it!" :D

Explosive 08-02-2003 08:20 PM

Beat the Geeks.

sadatx 08-02-2003 10:03 PM

Twin Peaks is on the top of my list.

I like that show Action and also Profit both on fox shame they were canceled.

I like the Critic too, but I can just catch reruns on Comedy Central.

And Cartoon Network has bot Futurama and Family guy, so there's no reason to miss those shows.

BlueBongo 08-02-2003 10:07 PM

Dinosaurs, X-Files, and Fragglerock. (eh.. I'm a geek and I miss those shows) :P

crow_daw 08-02-2003 10:58 PM

Andy Richter Controls the Universe
Family Guy

dunkelhelmut 08-02-2003 11:00 PM

This one is easy

Unhappily Ever After

I know, I know...The show was a blatant ripoff of MWC. However, it had the rediculously beautiful Nikki Cox as the show's main star.

Katyblu 08-03-2003 05:55 AM

Oh yeah! Titus and Nicki were some good shows too!

MadProphet 08-03-2003 06:48 AM

Buffy, it's only been a few months but knowing it's not coming back makes me sad.

mrquackers 08-03-2003 07:29 AM

Let me add my voice to Sports Night, but I've got a couple others...

fearofmear, I couldn't agree more about Cupid! One of the best shows ABC has ever cancelled. I've got every episode on tape. I only wish the quality was decent.

The_Jazz, as an ex-radio guy, I loved WKRP. Probably my favorite TV show of all time. ("I want a hat!! Cops gotta hat. I want a hat too!") Fortunately, the show had a good run and left right before it really jumped the shark, though you could see the fin circling in the water. :)

Others:
Quantum Leap
Class of 96 - loved, loved, loved this one! But I'm probably dating myself real bad here.
Police Squad - yeah, the movies are old hat now, but the show's six episodes were gold.

obediah 08-03-2003 10:07 AM

Upright Citizen Brigade - of course

An I'll have to second the entire batch of decent FOX comedies that they put on for 1/2 - 2 seasons and the canceled. Some of them weren't that great, but they all had that off-kilter slant that made them enjoyable.

Undeclared
Family Guy
Andy Richter
Titus
Grounded For Life

Futurama was the worst, because FOX didn't just cancel it, they abused it, shelved it, froze it, thawed it, and did everything they could to make sure it was dead, dead, dead and that no one would be able to produce new episodes.

The show I miss the most is The Tick cartoon. I would love to have billions of episodes of that. I don't know how anything could be so damn funny and not be offensive.

^dude 08-03-2003 10:30 AM

Definitly family guy and futurama.

Jonsgirl 08-03-2003 11:06 AM

number one: Farscape. number two through thirty: Farscape. Also Titus, Firefly, Family guy, Futurama, Bobby's Wolrd, Both the cartoon and live-auction Tick. And News Radio.

Mastershredder 08-03-2003 07:03 PM

RIP Futurama and Family Guy. Thank god for DVD box sets

JohnnyRock 08-04-2003 08:28 AM

I could go back all the way to shows from the 70s [When Things Were Rotten]but I won't...I'll keep it fairly recent:
Futurama
Family Guy
Firefly
John Doe
Buffy
Titus
Would miss Andy Richter...but I could neverf find it so....

cartmen34 08-04-2003 11:26 AM

Family Guy
Sports Night

Miss these from my childhood:
MacGyver
Knight Rider (cheezy I know, but hey, I was a kid and it was a cool car!!!)

Rodney 08-04-2003 01:19 PM

Firefly -- Fox didn't give it a chance

Brimstone -- great show. Fox cancelled it and replaced it with Sports Bloopers, which did a lot worse.

(what is it with Fox, they fund great shows and then cancel them).

Farscape I miss, but it was on the downhill slide. Still, I'm sorry Sci-Fi cancelled it.

Babylon 5: great show, miss it. But it was planned to go five seasons, and five seasons it went (by the skin of its teeth).

Kung Fu: The Legend Continues. I miss Carradine.

The Chronicle. It was really improving and Sci-Fi cancelled it. Vampire Elvises, maneating pizza ovens, murderous ghosts with weight problems, time-traveling Swedish gangsters from the future -- this show had it all!

The Invisible Man. Inventive fun on no budget, but Sci-Fi cancelled it. (They're as bad as Fox).

Wow a lot of great ones already named. I have two that come to mind:

It's Your Move (from like the 80's but it was pretty cool)

Nightinggales (I think that was the name, from the 90's I think. Basically nurses who got changed a lot).

There are just a lot of good shows that got cancelled that shouldn't have been. And I thought that Farscape just ended and it wasn't cancelled?
