Children of Men
GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!!!!!
Quick plot summary: In the near future, women become infertile, and no one knows why. England is the only country in the world that still has a stabalized government. Every other country has tore itself apart due to the infertility problem. Starring Clive Owen, Julianne Moore. One of the best movies I've ever seen. Please go see it, take your friends. Incredible plot/story, the dialogue is terrific, the acting even better, and the action scenes leave you with a sick feeling in your stomach. It makes you so glad you aren't in their scenario. The music/soundtrack in this movie is some of the best I've seen in years. Rotten Tomatoes = 91% Anyone else see this movie?

I agree, this is one of the best science fiction in years. It reminded me of the old sci fi novels from Clark, Asimov, Bradbury, and Herbert.
I gave it a 10/10 and I'd like to see it again (even though it really is emotionally draining). |

It sounds kind of like The Handmaids Tale. Is it much like that or the Outer Limits episode?

The best way I can describe it is that it's similar to playing Half-Life 2 for PC, except with a different plot and less action/more drama. Very bleak, but very meaningful, with wonderful environments, wonderful soundtrack, and the best acting I've seen since Casino Royale and The Departed. Sleeper hit. It doesn't seem like any Outer Limits episode I've seen - it's a very realistic and "this could happen to us" portrayal. It barely seems like science fiction, given the realism. Great movie!

This film is nothing short of amazing.
The action sequences are intense and scary, intermixed with these moments of human emotion and generosity and hatred and love and pain... It's both epic and extremely personal. It's just outstanding. As will said, though, it takes a lot to watch it. |

I loved this movie, too.
The Half-Life 2 feel is a great (and hilarious) point... I'm pretty sure it has more to do with the cinematography, though. Did you notice how the two major action sequences were all done in (mostly) one shot? Watch this video here for some info on them, it's pretty impressive. It really drew you in... and I see how that makes it feel similar to what you'd get out of a first-person shooter. And a burning car coming down a hill, blocking your path as you get ambushed? That's a definitely a page out of HL2.

I just got back from this movie. Holy crap. Movies of this quality make you wonder how directors can even think about releasing shit like Norbit. The cinematography in this movie is outstanding. It really makes you believe that what's going on is real and not just a movie.
I think one of the overlooked but most profound aspects of this movie is how the future is portrayed. Did you see any laser rifles? No. Flying cars? No. Robots? No. The major futuristic aspects of this movie come from the LCDs all over the place, which make sense due to the recent explosion of LCD technology in our time. This is a realistic take on 20 years from now and I love it. BTW I went into this movie knowing one thing about it: women are infertile. It really helps if you watch it not knowing much about it. The scene in the cow barn with Kee and Theo was probably the best in the entire movie. I officially love Alfonso Cuaron and Clive Owen after watching Children of Men. Outstanding soundtrack as well.

Took a date to see this last night... I was really impressed with the story, the fine acting of Clive Owen, and the super-long scenes with no breaks. Everyone did a great job with that movie, and now I have to read the book.

Maybe I should see it again. it didn't really grab me the first time. All I kept thinking was I've seen better post-apocolyptic films than this--- Like 12 Monkeys and Blade Runner.

I liked it the people I went to with it didn't. While I agree with my friends that the plot was slow it was made up for by good acting and character development.
The uprising scenes were done amazingly well. They reminded me of footage from saving private ryan. |

I personally think it was due to genetic alterations and bioengineering experiments. The dog race had dogs racing unearthly fast, most likely due to bio-engineering. There was biohazard signs throughout the movie, and multiple talks and insinuations about biogenetical experiments. Much like people are saying engineered food is disrupting hormones causing girls to mature too early, I think the screenwriter is insinuating that this is the cause of the infertility. Of course I could be dead wrong because they never went out and said it.
