uuh hi. Funny way to introduce yourself!

That expression, loosely translated, is a bit like motherfucker.

Literally it means mother hoar.

That help?

And, hello! Welcome.

'Bitch' is the way I've usually heard it translated, but I've heard so many other translations(although most of them were probably unreliable) that I think it might vary a bit with the dialect.

If memory serves 'puta madre' is one of those things that doesn't translate well literally and 'son of a bitch' would be the closest english equivalent as far as desired meaning/effect for an insult or exclamation.

Hope that helps.

and Hola calla.

puta, translated literally, is a derogatory slang for prostitute.

Little_Tippler explained it well, and completely.

the phrase is meant to portray an utterance in the same vein, tone, and implied "rudeness" as the English equivalent of "motherfucker". It is basically the harshest curse word in Spanish, though the irony is that it is used as fast and loosely as the word "fuck" is in the UK, US, and Aus... usually being contorted to express something better, and with greater emphasis.

If taken literally, it does mean your whore mother, but if you take the time to analyze its implication and conveyance, it is virtually the same as calling a person the worst thing you can in Spanish. It is also a phrase used often when something amiss happens, such as dropping a barrel of dead parrots on your foot, you'd be inclined to yell, "¡puta madre!"

A final word: "or when you fuck up something"

You can use carajo as a singular word of cursing, and is comparable to saying "Damn!" in English when something doesn't go your way.

I looked it up, and it means something more akin to "Hell", though it's connotation in English equivalency of cursing vocabulary has it's use mirroring that of using the phrase "damn", or more accurately, "Damn you to hell".

Maldicion! I remember watching subtitled American movies when I was living in Mexico, and most curse words were simply translated with "maldicion."
I guess it means malediction. Mal = bad, diction = speech.

My friends from El Salvador like saying "ay, la gran puta!" for the same kind of sentiment expressed by Puta Madre.
Where are you from, calla?
Welcome!

dippin, yes, we say 'puta que o pariu' which means loosely fuck the hoar who gave birth to him.

Xerxys, puta can also mean bitch, slut. On it's own it means that.

but also what dlish said - a derogatory term for prostitute.

Jetée, I think that there are harsher curse words/expressions in Spanish than puta madre.

like: Chinga tu madre, Cabrón, Concha de tu madre, Vete a tomar por culo, Vete a la mierda, Chupame la polla, Que te jodas, Maricón, Pajero, Pendejo.

Yeah, but way more fun because college spanish doesn't teach you such useful and colorful parts of the language!!

I'm not sure what puta madre means, that's a new one to me.

Here in Texas I've heard puta used to mean queer, as an insult directed to an effiminate male and/or homosexual, and chinca madre for motherfucker. These are slang terms in what I guess is Mexican Spanish.
