Sugar Free (Rant)
I just realized today that most of the food in my house is SUGARFREE or FAT FREE! or ZERO CALORIES! or ATKINS APPROVED! or SOUTH BEACH DIET! And you know what? All of it tastes TERRIBLE!! I'm really sick and tired of the "healthy food" movement of the modern era. You know what, I want to eat what tastes good. The best way to stay healthy is to stop being a fucking lazy ass American and get out and do some god damned excercise. You want healthy food? Go buy something organic.
All these people in the diet product industry are trying to do is get alot of money out of a bunch of suckers who want to be fit, in shape, not fat, skinny, or whatever else these people want to do but dont want to put in alot of effort. Thats the problem, many people don't want to put in the effort to lose thier wieght. You dont NEED to buy all this stuff to get to where you want to be, all you need to do is get away from the T.V. and get outside, or in the gym, and DO something. Yeah, it's hard work, but you know what, nothing comes easily. Someone PLEASE tell me I'm not the only one who thinks this way.

we're a culture that holds the appearance of health in high regard while slathered in unhealthy foods and practices; now we've adopted diets that produce the illusion of health but are not healthy at all. Our bodies rely on a balance; whether it's calories and exercise, yin and yang, acid and alkaline, or eating among the food groups. The average american's eating habits throw our bodies out of balance, and when we get tired of looking unhealthy we buy into the miracle diets that only throw our bodies even further out of whack. we're even being led to believe that obesity is a disease and that drugs are our only chance to "cure" ourselves...

for the first 12 years of my life or so my family was on the macrobiotic diet. we went on it both to be healthier and to support a friend who was diagnosed with cancer and given six months to live. She said she had not the willpower to stay on such a strict diet, so my parents put us all on the diet to help support her. That was almost 20 years ago and she's still alive today.
Even though my eating habits may not reflect it, I still believe in the power of balance. The concept of harmony within and without the body is sadly lost on many Americans it seems.

I think it's funny that most of these "diets" advertise on television either during the middle of the day or late at night. Here's a clue, if you're watching tv when you should be working or when you're up late, those diets aren't going to help you. Get off your ass for a change and do something. People want the best, but don't want to work for it. That's not really new to this generation of humans though. Just chalk this up to typical human behaviour and get over it.

Mom does most of the shopping. Yes I still live with my parents. Ain't got no reason to move out. Although I buy my own sugar-loaded type food all the time, and it seems to dissapear rather quickly...

The best way to keep healthy is not to eat what tastes good and excesize lots. It doesn't matter how fit you are if your arteries are clogged and your heart has to work double time to provide your fit muscles with oxygen. Sooner or later you will succumb to poor eating habits if you fill your body with crap. I fully agree that all this fat free sugar free sucks. I have none of it in my house because it tastes like crap. I also don't have any potatoe chips/pop/..... in my house. I do like to eat the crap I'll admit but I don't buy it and therefore don't eat it unless someone else brings it over. If you eat sensibly and avoid too much of any one thing and avoid most processed foods (chips/deli meat/instant anything/hot dogs/chicken nuggets/.....) you are well on your way to a healthy diet. It's not that hard.

These fad diets drive me nuts. When will our society realize that being thin is a biproduct of being healthy. Eating a balanced diet with even moderate excercise keeps you healthy and makes being thin a piece of cake. Eat balanced, get outside an DO SOMETHING ACTIVE WORLD! Studies have shown that exposure to the sun helps reduce cellulite and promote a healthier metabolism. (I know too much exposure can cause skin cancer, that's not what I'm trying to promote here.) Unfortunatly we all have the modern day version of Ulysses' sirens calling us to our deaths, it sits enshrined in our living rooms and we call it TV.
I leave for work about the same time as the kids are getting picked up by the bus in my neighborhood, I can't believe the percentage of kids that are overweight. How can these kids parents look at their kids gasping and wheezing from running from the TV to the dinner table and then go out and buy them more junk food, video games, movies etc. Anyway, you may have noticed that this is a pet peave of mine. |

What gets me with those fads diet is that many people don't seem to realize the consequences they fear so much are EXTREMES.
What I mean is, sure, an abuse of cholesterol can clog up your arteries, but that doesn't mean you have to run away screaming at the sight of butter! Clogged arteries are the results of ABUSING, not mere consuming. No, you won't drop dead from an heart attack if you eat KFC once. Heck, even once a week won't show any consequence if you do any exercice at all. |

funny thing is this, if you look around at the grocery store, there are many "sugar free", "no fat added" etc things like that, and they all cost more. why the hell should they cost more?!? the companies are saving money, and charging me more! (well not me, i dont buy that shit, but you get the idea)

Tell me about it. If I don't accompany my girlfriend to the grocery store, I'll be stuck with that same type of food. It's bad enough as it is now. Turkey burgers? Turkey tacos? Ugh.

I share your viewpoint in the fact that exercise, not stupid, worthless, and unhealthy fad diets is the way to go. However, I do like a lot of the "Atkins friendly" "low cal" foods. I LOVE Kraft light peanut butter for example, and enjoy Doritos (who have recently been advertising that they contain zero trans fats). Also enjoy some lean cuisine, etc.

and like suave mentioned, whats wiht all this trans fat crap? last thing i could remember was that saturated fat was the worst type, and all the health-oriented foods advertised their low percentages of that...now someone came up with a worse type of fat, and almost all foods seem to have 0% of it...so now they can advertise themselves as dieter friendly. oh well, people are stupid.
