Seatbelts are so necessary. I'll never forget the scene I saw when I was a teen where 2 people in a station wagon ended up being thrown halfway out the windows as the thing rolled down the highway and flipped end for end. The worst part was when I watched and the car came down on the drivers side landing on the driver who was half out the window. 3 people were in that car, none were wearing seatbelts and all were killed.

I've been in a number of accidents including one at 45 mph into a car rail when I was 7 mo pregnant. My baby was completely unharmed and I only recieved minor injuries because I was wearing my seatbelt properly.

I wear my seatbelt religiously.

Me too. It's become a part of my driving routine, and I just can't sit in a car without putting it on - subconsciously.
I once drove i a van where the driver told me to NOT wear my seatbelt. Because that was what the airbags were for. I just looked at him, shook my head and put on the seatbelt. An airbag won't keep me from being thrown out the side window...

I always ALWAYS wear mine, and I refuse to even put my car into drive until everyone else inside is buckled up too. It's just so stupid not to! I mean, what...it takes about 2 seconds to do it, and it could save your life, or be the deciding factor of whether or not you spend the rest of your life in a wheelchair...

In 1986, I was in a car accident while not wearing a seat belt. Frankly, if we had been going a little faster, I would have been dead. A car ran a red light in front of us, and we broadsided them in the intersection. Luckily we were going slow enough that we kind of rolled off of the other car instead of hitting them full on. What did I get for not wearing a seatbelt?

I ended up with 45 stitches in my forehead and a permanent scar. I ended up with 4 broken ribs on one side and damaged cartilage that hurt me for almost 3 years. I still have some pain at times if I have worked out too hard and lift my left arm above my shoulder. I was lucky that I didn't die, and the scar is so small now that most don't even notice it. However, I went through years of pain afterwards. I have never gone without a seatbelt since.

My parents made my sisters and I wear our seatbelts before it was required by law. We hated it then, but since its now second nature. I buckle up without even realizing now. I'll get into my truck to drive to the other side of the parking lot.. I'll be in my truck for maybe 30 seconds... and before I realize it.. I'm already buckled. If people don't want to buckle.. . I spose thats their choice.. unless they're riding with me.

As for me, I feel terribly naked without one in a car. I know accidents happen. I got a minor fender bender from some stupid woman in a mini van. She was a bitch, but my back hurt for days. I can't imagine what this guy went though, or anybody else.

I ALWAYS buckle up. I've only been in one accident, someone rear-ended me going about 15 mph. Considering how hard I was thrown forward merely from rebounding in my seat after a minor collision, I sure as hell wouldn't want to run into something going 30+ without a seatbelt.

and in my state it's the law you must wear one but we have a "no helmet needed" law...

but i ask you this, why should you HAVE to wear a seat belt when you don't have to wear a helmet...

here in Washington state, they passed a new law last year, "Click It or Ticket" - which means that they can pull you over any time for not wearing your seat belt. as if that video wasn't enough to inspire you to wear one.

Not sure if this was a real question or not since you alluded to the answer but I believe that it is actually to do with the fact that it's cheaper for insurance to deal with a death, which is more likely if you do not wear a helmet, than it is to deal with the medical bills that may arise from an accident where someone who was wearing a helmet surrvived with major injuries.

Something along those lines anyway. Here in Canada it's law to wear a helmet too.


And as for the original topic... I always wear a seatbelt.

Not wearing a seatbelt on the off chance that you may fall asleep and the car catched fire and you might not be able to get out, is like not eating in case you get food poisoning...

Redrum, if somebody crashes, and the force of the crash is enough to cut them in half, I'd be inclined to believe that without their seatbelt, they'd be in even worse shape...

When I was in high school the ambulance paramedics came and showed us photos of real corpses in real crashes, people have no idea how the forces of a high speed crash can mangle a person beyond recognition...

Last Wednesday I was cramming for an exam at like 3 in the morning and heard a screech and a bang, got my dad up (he's an RN) and told him I'd heard an accident. We ran out and like half a block down a car had went into someone's front yard and crashed into a tree. Before we got there 3 passengers and the driver got out of the car and took off, but the girl in the front seat's head had struck the glass, cutting her face up pretty good. The door was mangled so we cleared out the window and tried to get her out but her seatbelt was jammed, luckily one of the other guys that showed up had a swiss army knife and we managed to cut it and get her out of the car. Went out and bought myself a car multitool with a seatbelt cutter the next day, because I realized that even though the seatbelt can help you live through the accident, it can also stop you from getting away from a dangerous situation after the accident.

I always click it. Staying awake and alert at the wheel is so important. If you are tired, pull off to the side of the road if possible and take a nap before carrying on to your next destination.

I've seen several major accidents and the video doesn't even come close to showing precisely what can happen to a body without a belt.

I don't wear a seatbelt, but that gives me pause. I wont' say I'll start religiously but perhaps I'll put the annoying, neck-cutting, highly uncomfortable for large ppl apparatus on in the future a little more.


That's the thing with seatbelts...for many bigger ppl theyr'e very uncomfortable and badly placed for anyone over 5'10" and over 200 lbs in weight. I would wear one no problem if they didn't make driving a lot less confortable for me. I did wear one a lot driving my mom's 5.0 tho as it kept me in the seat.


Interesting Irony: They say if you're gonna commit suicide by car by running it into a wall or bridge support at high speed to wear your seatbelt to keep you in the car as throwing you could save your life.

I've always worn my seatbelt, and actually feel very uncomfortable without one now. Even just backing the car down the driveway to wash it, I have a seatbelt on. Just a habit.
