TFP, December, and how it affects you.

Here's the deal, people. The TFP server is gonna be making it's second trip across the Atlantic Ocean. We will be powering down at the end of the month and we will probably take a few weeks to get to DC, where we will be taken care of by our good friends ServInt.

We will be running the TFP on our old server as our beast makes the journey, however there is a difference between dual 1.8GHz and 500MHz P3. We are going to be disabling a few forums and features during this time, so you'll only be able to use the discussion forums.

Our good fortune has run out in Finland and our sysadmin is moving on, so we cannot have our hosting any more. Thus, we will be incurring a few extra costs each month.

Without the support of PayPal, our donations have dwindled severely. We have Yahoo PayDirect, which works for people in the US, and then we have our Snail Mail address. Please, people, if the TFP is worth it to you, help support us. Donation thread --> http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthr...=&threadid=718

That's really all for now. Thanks for readin'

************************UPDATE

WE ARE NOW RUNNING ON OUR BACKUP SERVER, FLOUNDER

SOME FEATURES HAVE BEEN TURNED OFF.

Ya do what ya have to do, right? I'm concerned about the old server though. Does anyone remember what happened right at the very end of Version 3.0? It is possible I have know idea what I'm talking about. Anyway, thanks for the heads up.

blarg. welp, me whining won't make one single sollution or help in any fashion.

why happened with PayPal? I took a donation break lately. wtf is up?

i know basically nothing about pcs so if i'm asking something dumb just say so. aren't CPUs and MOBOs fairly cheap these days? a 2g cpu is like $90?

the discussion forums may still be up? what about the journals? chat?

sorry to throw so many questions at once. totally caught off guard

Z: Chat is hosted elsewhere (by irvingnet) so I don't see why it would go down. If so it could easily be hosted, for free, on another IRC network.

I know we discussed this in IRC already, but I really think that ditching the free donation services and going with a voluntary monthly membership system by means of a CC-billing company (along with allowing personal checks by snail-mail) would be the best way to go.

I'd also like to know if journals will be going down. That's gonna be a rough few weeks. But you do what you have to do. Thank you for letting us know, and I hope all goes well.

Now that I have donated, I feel much better about how much time I spend participating on TFP. I highly recommend it to everyone, it's good for the soul.

Hang in there Halx, another drop in the bucket is on the way

Btw: what's up with the server moving?

Sadly enough I feel the same. And now I feel a little pathetic. No offense.

Ahaha, 500mhz. Just disable the porn stuffs and at least half of your bandwidth will free up. Easy.

This is a great idea and, while I am a sporadic donor, if I had to pick between paying my bills and putting food on the table ...well, gee guess who is going to win.
I know it takes a lot of effort ( and cash ) to run this place but for the little people like me who struggle to raise their kids and take care of things...well, let's just say there is one reason I don't have a gym membership and it sure as heck isn't because I wouldn't use it every day.
I would hate to have my tfp cut off because I was late on my payment that month.
I try to give what I can - I hope it's enough......
waaaah...now I'm all bummed out!

edit.... *gasp* we aren't going to lose the journals are we??? Oh, say it isn't so!

journals dont take much processing power so they stay

what goes is likely to be the more explicit forums, but this is only for a half a month maybe

I'll be sending in some cash next week.

To anyone who's worried about how much to send in or that they don't have enough, if you send in $5, that's $5 less that Hal has to pay. If you can afford more, it will be more than welcome. Remember, every little bit helps.

Since I’m not a mod I can preach a little without sounding like a henchman.

I’ve donated about five times. why? Because this is a quality site that is not free to run but runs for us. To everyone to selfish to donate. . . well, I cannot be rude. Let’s just say I don’t like leaches. If this were a pay site or something it would be different. But it isn’t and nobody is turned away without reason. Not donating at least once is just a way to tell the mods ‘thanks for your loyalty to us, Now fuck off’.

This place gave me a home when I needed it. I’ve met people here who have seriously contributed heavily to my life in reality. I have met a fellow surviver, a man who showed me that not all intelligent people are snobbish assholess, I’ve met someone on her I plan to spend some time with next year if things continue to go as well. Most of all, I’ve found a place where most are slow to judge. If I’m miserably depressed I can whine in the journal or chat without complaint. If I’m overly hyper I am able to get rid of some of the energy without dealing with jerks.

Don’t get me wrong, this place is not perfect. Escaping assholes is not possible. I’m sure if you look in Heaven there will be at least one jerk. But the majority rock. And to Halx I give mad props because he’s taken a lot of criticism without dropping us. Most people will say ‘well, this is my place so fuck you’. I can imagine Halx doing it if he wanted, but he seems to listen to reason and tries to please everyone. Things piss me off at times here. So what? Life is like that.

So, guys, for free we’ve gotten great discussions. We’ve seen people show their bodies and artwork. We’ve seen tons of positive ways for people to learn and grow. And don’t forget the porn.

Donate if you like the place. One fucking dollar apiece could support this place.

I agree with Minx. My little family unit doesn't have any extra cash to go around. Even though I've only been here a few days, I'd hate to think that I'd suddenly get cut off because my personal finances are strapped.

I hope the move goes off without a hitch.

Well, not being in the US I can't use Yahoo Pay Direct.

I asked a few times if any mods had personal PayPall accounts to which I could transfer money, but no one even answered me.

I'm not going to put cash in an evelope and post it over. Methinks that's just too risky.

so when is Yahoo PayDirect going to accept non-US credit cards?!

Sweet Jesus, I've been putting off for almost half a year. I even prepared an envelope for it. -_-. While I am stretched a bit with college, It's not going to hurt me to spare an extra 20 or 30 bucks for TFP.

For those of you I regularly talk to, please beat me with sticks until I stop procrastinating.

I live in the land of the cash strapped myself, and so far thats stopped me from donating- but I got to thinking about it, and would hate to see this place go to a pay site- one of the cool things about it is that anyone can wander in and join up- even us poverty stricken types- anyway, I do not want to contribute to making Halx into a pov, so I have decided to forego Mcdonalds for a while and donate- think about it people- there are 32000 of us- and five bucks isnt much- some of us can't and thats all there is to it, but I for one have decided that I can make at least some allowences to help this place out.....

When the KING HALX calls, I answer, period.

PS...HALX, why don't you put a big notice up in the front/first/common page BANNER style for a couple of weeks, reiterating your point, I think it might really help in the cause. Just my 2 cents.
