Important - a better donation system!

I had another look at bitpass (www.bitpass.com), and they appear to be no longer on beta testing - they are open for business fully!
I emailed their tech support - here's both emails:

------------------------------------
> What support do you have for different currencies? I want to get transfers
> going from various countries to a US dollar account in the end - will this
> be possible or do you only deal in GBP/dollars etc. I couldn't find a
> mention of currencies at all on your site.

Although we only use US dollars, the purchases can be made with almost any currency
supported by PayPal or Payflow (VeriSign). The resulting payouts are also converted into the local
currency by Paypal.

Will Mayall
BitPass, Inc.
-----------------------------------------------

Thus, Halx - I seriously think you should look into this service - I would then be able to donate, and donate I would!

Who is 'develdevil36@yahoo.com'

When I clicked the donate button, it took me to a donation page for 'develdevil36@yahoo.com'...is this correct?

Don't want to be sending $$$ to the wrong guy! ... I guess I was expecting a 'halx' or 'tfp' address....

well, you gotta figure, each avatar is about 50K in size give or take (mostly take) and they have to load each time someone views your post... in a community this large... yeah.

now, if they're hosted offsite (not sure if they're hosted on the tfp server or not) the difference is minute, but if they're hosted here then this server processes them and that's a MEGA bandwidth usage.

Scrolling up and doing a quick check on the first person above still displaying an avatar yields it's address to be:

http://tfproject.org/tfp/avatar.php?userid=23991&dateline=1058926240

Thus, they are hosted on the site, and I can imagine that removing them does actually help a lot!

Hey people,
I understand all of us have different financial issues in our lives preventing us from making a contribution, but look at it this way. How easy is it to pull one dollar out of your pocket to buy a pack of gum, a soda, a newspaper, or anything else? Think about the satisfaction you get from it versus this forum. You can spend countless hours at this site, and get a lot more out of it than what you would normally get for the dollor you wasted on something less meaningful. Come on, you know you can cough up a couple of bucks, or even more, but you are making a choice not too. If you try a little, and get a little creative, you can scrounge up a couple of bucks. So why not take a minute to do it, so you can spend hours enjoying this forum? Make a difference, make a donation. Even a little from a lot of people makes a huge difference
Lastly, for all who have contributed so far, I admire you for your generosity and commitment.

Just a suggestion- when the server returns to a fully functional state, how about creating a spoof section. I have some spoofs I could contribute, maybe other members would, too.

No, not the shipping company, I mean the original Mayflower, the sailing vessel.

That's a direct quote from the User CP as to the size limits on avatars.

I think maybe checking a fact, before presenting it as a fact, might be a good idea.

it was a rough estimate.

and 20 kb is still a kinda big file when multiplied over the userbase and then loaded daily.

not to mention avatars serve little purpose. but let's not get into a pissing war eh?

at least we can all agree that we love this place even if some of us live off of 600 dollars a month and simply cna't donate.

as of today, i have just been informed that the unemployment checks i was receiving that were keepin me afloat might come to an end. not because i have received the full amount of benefit, but merely because there was some discrepancy in the form that i filled out with regards to refusing work. i have always had 5 dollars in my drawer that i was hoping to one day turn into 20 so that i may send in. but as far as the outlook seems, the 5 is gonna remain that -inflation. so Halx, if this would help, let me know.

Is it just me, or am I the only one who hasn't missed the porn?
*NiceGuy braces to be beat up*
I'm here for the message boards and the community. The main server being down hasn't prevented me from enjoying the best part of the TFP. I do miss the search functions though. I figure that with the porn gone, the ones who are still visiting are those who actually care about the forum and being a part of this great community, not just about getting free porn.
Halx - You've created a great little corner of the internet! Thank You!

I think this is a great idea! Also another idea might be Bit Torrent Links? It would be a great way for members to share mass amounts of information (i.e. porn) with each other, while minimizing server strain. For those of us with plenty of bandwidth, it'd be a great way to give back to the community!

Just an idea...

I have missed the TB as much as anyone, but this time has forced me to look around, and I am just beginning to realize how much is here to enjoy (please don't take that to mean I don't want it back). Sorry to admit but I was here for the free tittie's. I have posted several times but you people are so good that most ended up being repeats (not that ther is any thing wrong with that).
I just lost my wife (who will now proceed with financially persicuting me) and for Christmas my company was kind enough to lay me off. I will be making my proud march to the un-employment office this week. However I will do my best to help, since I have not done so before, and I had a job, this will be difficult, but after reading all the previous posts, I think I can manage something.
Thanks for everything so far, and I look forward to 04 and the new server.

I'm ashamed to admit that i'm like warf rat.. I first came here lured by the boobies~ but after it was gone, i started looking around, and found a very interesting and enjoyable community... (but i still miss boobies~)

I also think that the bit torrent idea is cool, that would be a nice place to find files that you would want to share.

I don't think they could do the Bit Torrent thing. Threads have been closed in the Computing Section that contained BitTorrent links because it is considered warez. Sorry if this bursts the bubble.

I have enjoyed giving and receiving great advice, humor, and companionship on some very lonely days. I have been gone for sometime, but have finally gotten a chance to write. My father killed himself this past November, and my mind has been in a totally different space. But I belong to no other forum, so that my energy isn't diluted from contributing here when I get the chance. Love to all!
