Driver 'had no chance' Quote:
I read this in todays paper, You should have seen the truck...I am amazed that one of the truck drivers walked away from this accident. It just sounds so horrific the way the accident was explained in the article. Getting hit by one truck would suck...But then getting hit by another one.... masses of metal and glass.... add velocity...add stupid drivers...or distracted drivers...takes just one second.

My condolences to the family.
I hope some other external cause for the accident can be found, or the 'guilty' driver will feel this burden forever...

i bet the rig driver did fall asleep... he for sure messed up somewhere... they work long ass hours though... so it's not too much of a surprise
The thing that got me is the whole fact that it's in the paper already... they don't know who the man was, but he was probably going to be home that night... so if he has a family, they will read that their father/husband or whoever died in an insane car accident in a paper, rather than having someone contact them.. i would rather not read it in a paper some things should just be left out of the papers until actions are taken also Quote:

Ok now lets not get carried away... I don't think the firemen and police men and the ambulance drivers want to weave in and out of a bunch of cars that all stop to help. If you're on an express way this would be a very bad problem. I think if there is a chance you can help... like your a doctor or you just happen to have some "jaws of life" in your trunk to help cut people outta burning cars. Sure Stop. If you cant do anything but be in the way of professionals.... keep going, and call 911 on your cell phone.

What really sucks is that a lot of people do stop, but only to rubberneck.
I agree with midlandmadman that too many people stopping would be bad, but if I saw it happen and there was no one else around i would stop

Living in a highly industrial area I see 18 wheel truck accidents daily. I wish someone would address the real issue and find a better and safer way to transport goods. Those trucks are too large and the drivers drive too far for too long. Yes there are laws that say they cannot drive for more than 18 hours at a time but there are ways around that and some of the trucking companies encourage their drivers to do drive as long as possible.
I am not against the trucking industry at all, I just think there is a better way to do it. One Idea I have been tossing around is smaller lighter trucks designed more aerodynamically and closer to the ground. The truck needs to be all one piece to stop jack knifing and trailer load loss. Each truck should have two drivers one rests while the other drives. No Cross state truck driving! This is why we have trains. Drivers should be regional not owned by the company that needs good transported unless they have all local drivers. The local company/driver picks up his load from the train and delivers it in state (tri-state or metropolitan). I know this would not prevent all accidents and does not account for everything but could help a lot. What do you think? |

I hope the driver died from the impact. Burning to death is most unpleasant.
We had an accident like that near here on I-90. Vehicles were approaching a toll booth and one driver didn't slow down in time. He hit another big rig and then a small tour bus. 8 people were killed. Tragic.

A friend of mine was hit by an oncoming truck, on the wrong side of the road. His car rolled, fell off a verge and landed upside down. He spent about 2 months in hospital, and now has no front teeth, and most of his head/neck is supported by metal plates, he is really screwed up. Thing is, the OKish person in the car next to him was the only person to call an Ambulance on her cell. The car was in full view of hundreds of people driving past, and not one of them thought to pull over and phone an ambulance. Not having a phone is no excuse, they are every few hundred yards on the motorways.
