Satire is dead.
An image that always brings a smile to my face whenever I think of it, is the "politically correct" Michaelangelo's David wearing a pair of Jeans from the simpsons.
Sadly life imitates art whether we want it to are not. http://www.14wfie.com/Global/story.a...7&nav=3w6oHV8I Quote:

2000! Holy David! If I spent that much money on a statue I'd say "fuck you, and fuck you" and leave my statue right where it stood. But, I can't imagine paying that much for a pretty rock in the first place.
I don't think it's sad that people are requesting that Davids snake be bagged. If I drove by and found my kid looking with inquisitive eyes, I'd think twice. I see no problem in people asking billy bob to hide his wang. Seems like only the parental thing to do. Then again, it is his property, and, as far as I know, sculptures are not popularly considered 'porn' so... |

Some people feel that they should be able to shelter themselves/their children from any-and everything they consider offensive. While it is understandable for parents to monitor their TV viewing and internet use, preventing them from seeing art is ludicrous. It should become a good conversation starter for parents to discuss other things with their kids...

its a sad day when society decides that the human body is obscene.
many would argue that the rejection and demonisation of such art is a product of the conservative era in which we live. i sincerely hope this guy keeps David on display where it is, and tells the ´concerned neighbours´ where to go. although, i wonder if all of the concerned neighbours are complaining about the statues nudity? i get the feeling that some of the neighbours simply feel that such a statue in the front yard looks ugly, and more than a little kitsch. but, yet again, its his yard... to decorate how he pleases. and for all i know of this neighbourhood, and his property, it may look divine. good luck to him.

How close to a penis does an object have to get? Is there a rule that people go by to judge penis resemblance?
I think that people go by the presence/resemblence of the glans. It also might help this guy to remind people that porn is in the mind of the beholder, as demonstrated on Adam Connelly's Pr0ntings page (NSFW if you have a vision impaired boss) i think i might buy a statue of David, 2 pr0ntings, and the penis that Alex kills the Catwoman with in A Clockwork Orange.

Those concernced parents should quit while they're ahead. They should spend their time organizng a neighborhood watch or something else to really keep their kids safe.
If I lived in that guy's neighborhood, I wouldn't mind that statue. It'd save me a trip to the musuem. |

the people complaining are probably the same parents who refuse to let their kids have sex education. Probably also the same parents who become grandparents in their late twenties because their daughter gets pregnant at 13

I think part of the problem may be that our generation doesn't recognise classic art anymore. Even if these people are the religious ones they should recognise the statues significance. It's the representation of a Bible character and should be viewed as such. There are a number of lessons that could be brought out when the kids see it. If you don't like seeing it - just take a different route. When you panic about seeing it you give the nudity more significance than it would have held in the first place. I know as a kid the things that freaked my parents out held my attention more because they were "forbidden". Don't make a big deal out of it and kids won't either.

I hate this ultra-conservative crap. It's almost universally recognized as the masterpiece of sculpture, but the uneducated cretins only see it as a naughty picture. I'm far more concerened about the prevalence of extreme and graphic violence available to children in America then I am about them asking why a statue has a pee-pee. And yes, I am a Parent, and my son has been going to art museums since literally before he was born. |

Nice snow sculpture Bones.
That reminds me. Last winter I arrived home late in the evening, and drove down my street to the site of my neighbors snow sculpture. It was a farily good redition of a guy getting a blow job from a girl on her knees. And they had it lit up with spot lights. Kinda made me laugh, but I did wonder about my kids heading down that road to school in the morning. Of course I live in connservative central, so the police arrived shrotly after I drove past and within a few minutes they had the sculpture broken apart. I still wonder what "law" specifically they were enforcing. Also wonder which neighbor called the cops, but where I'm from it was probably 1/2 the neighbors who called. |

What good is satire, if it cannot keep up with the absolutel absurdity of the REAL world. When I was a kid, I was brought by my parents (often grudgingly on my part!) to countless art galleries. I saw more nudity that I could ever remember. But to me, this was absolutely normal. In fact, I didn't even SEE the connection between nudity in art, and sex. Strangely enough I didn't grow up to be some perverted deviant rapist! Imagine that! I turned out completely normal, dispite having my innocent mind warped from a very young age by such obscene images!

Hey, here's an idea. Why don't we suggest to those 'concerned parents' that they simply castrate their male children. That way, they don't have to worry about them ever seeing a penis, and it removes their genes from the gene pool, leaving everyone happy.
