Criminal minds, help me out...
Recently some douchebag got ahold of my credit card information and started ordering services online with it. The odd thing is that all of the merchandise is coming to my house, and it is all recurring payment items (diet pills, penis pills, etc.). I've corrected the issue, but for the life of me I cannot figure out what the scam is.
How would someone benefit from this, or is it just greifing?

They'd benefit by stealing the package off your porch/out of your mailbox/never delivering it to you. If they can get to it before you, you might never know that you've been had. You can't file a chargeback if the merchant can prove that they delivered it to you.

I would assume it is a guy who is making money from the sale to you and leaving you with the bill. You are buying his stuff and the credit card company pays him. I would document (time and date) your attempt to correct this with your credit card company and be prepared to return any packages if they get to you.
He might also be an agent who would get a sales commission from each of these sales. Last edited by Nepenthes; 12-06-2010 at 01:45 PM.. |

This sounds like somebody's "ratfucking" you.
The term comes from the inner circle of CREeP, Richard Nixon's "Department Of Dirty Tricks." The "ratfuckers," as Hunter Thompson and others called them, were infamous for doing things like ordering 5,000 buckets of KFC, cash-on-delivery, for an opponent's campaign functions.

I agree, this is personal.
Using your credit card to buy stuff is one thing... Having crap shipped to your home address is another... Using your credit card to have stuff shipped to your home address? That's personal. Diet pills and penis enlargement? That's family. If you're single I'd say it's an ex girlfriend. If you're married, it's your kid. If you're military, it's your best friend. |

I thought the same thing, but the items are really random. Penis pills are obvious, but I'm not even close to overweight (two diet pill "subscriptions"), I've never smoked (an electronic cigarette was one item), and I don't shop online (some shopping club). I see no reason to use auto renew, since I would obviously take note of the usage and cancel the card. My first thoughts ran to my ex, but she is smarter than that, so I'm inclined to agree with Nepenthes' read...

I agree with the harassment theory. It reminds me of childhood pranks like ordering pizza for a neighbor. It could be a total stranger or someone that knows you, but the credit card company won't provide you with any information they obtain on their end.

I will tell you how they benefit from it:
There are many gaming websites, gambling, etc... That offer points, coins, tokens, whatever it may be on that particular site, in exchange for signing up for things on the internet. So someone has a CC#, are not interested in the product itself, only the outcome of getting the credits on the website, you get the item, and get to pay for it, and they get the points. Fun huh. Beats me, but cards have been changed and all charges reimbursed. If I find out who it is I'll take 'em for a nice drag behind the truck...

Debaser, just send each of us the appropriate item and we'll pool together some recoup money.
My micropenis thanks you. ... Useful content: What credit card company do you use? I have Chase Sapphire and a human calls me whenever I make a really oddball purchase. "Just wanted to be sure it's you. Have a nice day!" Last edited by Plan9; 12-19-2010 at 11:10 PM.. |

If I'd actually lost anything from the process I might have the motivation to do that. I will gladly mail the cockdrops in as a TFP incentive. Just let me know where to send them...
