Just out of curiosity, folks -

I am thinking of purchasing a Jennings Nine (9mm) - and was wondering what your thoughts were? I haven't really heard much about this weapon, and was looking for some input.

I took it out to the range, and it is fairly accurate at about 25 yards, but not too much further than that...

Also, I looked online for information on how to field strip it, but was unable to find any. Any info or links would be much appreciated.

[Edit] I suppose I should tell you the purpose of purchasing this would be mainly for target practice, and I guess if the need ever arose for home defense. No Carry/Conceal, as it is not permitted in Wisconsin.

A Jennings is marginally better than a rock.
Of South-African origin, they are cheaply made of investment-cast zinc alloys, and have a well-deserved reputation for unreliability, and in particular for kB-ing in unpredictable and spectacular ways, frequently injuring their owners/users. They are the definition of "throwaway gun" as, after 2-3 rounds, throwing the gun becomes the best use one can make of it, as it has probably malfunctioned, exploded, or otherwise become a chrome-plated paperweight. The accuracy of such weapons is abominable, and on the off-chance that it survives more than a few hundred rounds, the barrel will likely be worn smooth, reducing your weapon the equivalent of an 1800-level noisemaker, but without the nice wood stock and brass finishings.
These weapons ( if they can even be called such ) are a total waste of time, money, and ammunition; DO NOT BUY. If you need a pistol and are on a budget, a Makarov or CZ-52 will suit your needs, cost only a little more, be infinitely more reliable and ( in the case of the CZ-52 ) be quite a bit more powerful, as well. Comments? Crap with bad chrome on it.

As Dunedan put forth, they're horrid. Even though the price is low, the quality is so abhorrent as to make it negative value. I'd rather spend a fifth of the money on a good knife, or stuot stick. Or you can just pick up a heavy rock.

Seriously, you can easily get much better firearms than these for only a bit more money if you shop around.

I have to agree with these guys....
Some friends of mine took a Jennings 9mm and for fun they shot
it mounted to a vice in a controled aera...
after 25 rounds the barrel literally cracked and fell out of the frame....
the Makrov is much better choice..
as it has been combat proven for over 50 years..
the Russian police and army still issue these pistols today....

The entire Jennings series make great weapons. They last forever... As long as you don't shoot them. Sure, throw them at the target, or hit the target with the pistol, but just don't shoot it. Parts start flying if you do.... LOL

Figured I'd share -

Brought it out to the range a second time (just after I made the original post, no responses yet) and began firing. Suddenly, it began misfiring, I'd have to pull the trigger 2-6 times for it to actually fire. Tried different ammo, made sure the slide was going all the way forward, ect. Suddendly, it won't fire at all.. is it jammed or something? Nope, the gun is busted, with less than 150 rounds fired.

So, thanks for all your help, folks - I'll definately be back for more advice when I decide on my next purchase
