Piston Driven AR, what say you?

Well?

Yea or Nay?

I dont know much about them, someone explain why they're not as accurate...are they bending the receiver ala AK?

I think it's as simple as heavier moving parts making a gun less accurate.

Gas pistons are a necessity on fighting guns.

The shits-itself AR-15 is the can't-catch-up failure.

AR-180 did a damn good job. Made by the same guy that made the AR. Has a piston.

H&K G36 slaps the shit out of ANY AR. Just as accurate at any AR. Has a piston.

...

(picks up AK47, gestures to it like Vanna White)

I'll take reliability over accuracy any day.

Especially in the desert.

Bushmaster just came out with a new piston upper.

I wish the H&K 416 would find itself a place in the US for civvies.

When asked to develop a cartridge to compete with the .223 and a rifle to fire it, Mikhail Kalashnikov responded that the AK47 and 7.62x39 were adequate for any battlefield situation the Soviet Union would find itself in. He went on and made the AK74, for which I'm thankful because the '47 is banned here in CT, but I still agree with him.

You think there's a faint hope of a sporting purpose exception or are you ready to smile, nod, and load it up with American parts?

Oh, American parts, brother... I'm not THAT hopeful.

The 416 and 417 REALLY turn me on. The 417 especially. Unga-BUNGA!

The 417 does look nice now that they've got a hold open on there.

I still want a freaking paddle release for the mags tho. In addition to the usual side mounted button release would be great as well. Its a small thing to ask really.

I can't remember the URL, but I saw a video on youtube about a piston'd AR-15. The guy was going on and on about the benefits and he proceeded to rattle off a full magazine and then handed the rifle over to some people. They remarked how cool the receiver was to the touch... and how clean the bolt carrier assembly was. I too would be interested to know how the piston uppers affect accuracy.

That would the Heckler & Koch 416 video. Or the G36 video from the late '90s.
