When asked to develop a cartridge to compete with the .223 and a rifle to fire it, Mikhail Kalashnikov responded that the AK47 and 7.62x39 were adequate for any battlefield situation the Soviet Union would find itself in. He went on and made the AK74, for which I'm thankful because the '47 is banned here in CT, but I still agree with him.
