Cooling Down a Computer
Well Maybe not so much my computer, but it's exhaust.
Lately i've noticed that my room is the warmest in the house, which during winter time is fine, but in summer or when i have someone else in the room **nudge nudge** it gets alittle stuffy. After scouting around, looking as to why, I noticed that my computer BELLOWS heat from fan locales, which isn't surprising, i'm sure whoever reads this will say "Duh, dumbass." Not the point. I just want to know if there is anyway that i can cool down the exhaust comming from the comp. I've heard about water systems that you can use to cool down your computer, maybe i should add more fans, i dunno, let me know what you guys think, if theres anything at all i can do. Thanks Again. CM.

Increase air flow .
Around or inside the box. The higher the volume of air moving through, the less the air will be able to heat up, the less the margin between that room's air and the rest of the house. Also keep airflow with that room and the rest of the house in mind. Keep the door or a small window open. I guarantee that pc is taking in and pushing air out the same side or is hemmed in by a table and restricted in airflow that way. Right? |

i should have learned that in physics, thanks willy, i have noticed a difference since in pulled it out of it's cubby hole, now it's nice and cozy by my side blowing out into the open. appreciate the help.

A few things you can do to make it a bit cooler is underclocking, the reverse of overclocking, lower the clock speeds, lower the voltage. on my system I run my cpu at 1.3 volts instead of the stock 1.4 volts, it helps a bit with heat, you can also reduce the clock speed and that will help with temp, but it will slow your system too.

Also, cleaning out dust from things like your heatsink, fans, motherboard, power supply, graphics card, or just anywhere in the damn case will help alot. I have worked on computers belonging to friends and relatives and pulled out handfulls of dust from them. The excess dust makes it more difficult for things such as heatsinks or even just the silicon on your mobo to dissipate heat into the air flowing through and the parts get hotter before it begins to radiate off.
Adding an additional case fan or two might also help, but isn't guaranteed. Airflow alone will not always solve a problem like this. Consider the underclocking if you are willing to take a dip in performance and nothing else helps. If you want to keep the performance and all the other tips fail, consider water cooling.

The heat is produced no matter what you do. You have two choices: one, go replace as many parts of your computer as possible with lower-powered parts (there are desktops made with laptop parts for example) to decrease heat produced; or two, drain the heat from your room more efficiently. Blow the air out the door, open a window, whatever. Putting in a water cooling system will only absorb a certain amount of the heat, which will then transfer to the air and you get the exact same thing again.

"Cubby Holes" for PC's make me crazy. They suck. Yeah, let's just recirculate the already heated air. No thanks. Also, I don't think computers should be on the floor. Why take the risk of sucking up dust-bunnies and pet hair? My case is on my desk. I have a big desk, I know that's not an option for everyone.
