Problem
When I first built my computer, I was running into a lot of errors, and my monitor kept going off, and such, and I posted the problem here, ( http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthread.php?t=73869 ) I finally got it working a bit but, today it really went out, and I couldnt get it working for anything. So I took my 9600XT out, and reset my CMOS and put my nVidia GeForce MX400 in, and my computer works fine. The 9600XT works fine in other computers, so its obviously a problem between the SOLTEK motherboard, and the ATI card. I've decided to just buy a new motherboard. What motherboard would guys suggest? That I know would work with my ATI 9600XT. It has to be a 754 socket motherboard ( AMD Athlon 64 3000+ ). Thanks for any help.

Isn't socket 939 compatible with 754? I think it is, and if so you should get a motherboard with that socket since it's faster than the 754 for about the same price. In any case, I recommend a motherboard from Abit. Very stable, not overpriced and easy to overclock should you like to try that.

As far as I know, theres a difference in 64 bit processors, some are only for socket 754, and some are for only socket 939. I could be wrong though. I'm currently looking through abit/asus/dfi, hopefully I can find one that will work good with my video card, because right now the geForce MX400, PCI card, is killing me.

Another question. Sorry about so many.
Once I get my new motherboard, I should be able to move my cpu/heatink/ram/hard drives, over with no problem right? Just take the processor out, and put it in the new motherboard, put the heatsink back on it, hook everything back up, and thats it, no problems, correct? As long as I get a motherboard that mches my processor, and ram, of course. |

This problem occured when I first built my computer, and It had something to do with the AGP chipset drivers ( at least thats what i think ), and by installing SP2, it fixed it....and it worked for 5 motnhs, and now its jsut doing it again, so i just dont see it being the PSU, but Illl try it out though. Thanks.

If you don't want to format your harddrive when switching motherboards, I believe you can delete all the devices in the device manager, shutdown the computer, move the harddrive and other components to the new motherboard, start and windows should be able to detect that things have changed, without need for a reformatting. I did this on my girlfriends computer, moving her harddrive from a P3 motherboard to a Athlon XP

A full format is not always required. When you install the new board boot off the xp cd and do a repair install. It will overwrite the old files with the required files. Thats what i did when i installed a new board.
