Curious about cPanelX
Is there anybody out there that is familiar with this control panel for a website?
So far I am doing what I want; I have a test homepage up and e-mail is up and running. However, there are a gazillion options on this thing that I am not familiar with. Are the any tips and tricks that you guys use on this panel? So really cool features that you think I should know? My website purpose: 1) e-mail 2) post/host pictures (i.e. to show on this forum) 3) at some point I will probably run an actual website, but not right now. 4) I might also use the ftp feature (not sure how to use it) to share/host my AutoCAD files with my clients. Any suggestions/comments, etc????

CpanelX is pretty cool actually.
If you're gonna be linking picts to this forum make sure your hotlinking is turned off, or atleast allow tfproject.org. Also here's a cool trick for advoiding spam. Set up a sub domain. Something like "catch.yourdomain.com". Then make it's default email addie your most often used email addresse. This way, when you need to give out a email addresse, to say the TFP, you can give "ftproject.org@catch.yourdomain.com". Whenever the TFP sends an email to you itll be automatically forwarded to your main account. This will also work if you set the default addresse of your site "your domain.com" to forward to your main email addie. Allthough I've found that seting up a subdomain for your account is better because your root domain will recieve lot's of untargeted spam. If you ever start geting spam from "tfproject.org@catch.yourdomain.com" you'll know that the TFP sold your email addresse. If this happens (forexample) simply set up a forwarding email addresse for this email addresse. Send it to ":fail:. Problem solved. I realize this may be confusing, if you have any other questions please PM me. I'd be more than willing to set it up for you. Just be sure to change you Cpanel password if you want me to help you. That way you can change it back afterwards. ... or email me at KMA-628.tfproject.org@email.[domainname].com ![]() Last edited by ibis; 08-10-2007 at 11:18 AM.. |

Cpanel X is really cool... i use it for all of my clients that i host (i own an internet production company)... depending on who your host is depends on your choices a couple really cool things cpanel has is the scripts library and the cgi center.. these two things can save you a mountain of work... basically what they do is they instal cgi apps and various mySQL database apps (ie.. invision power board, PHPnuke, BBboard, CGIemail, entropy search, and several others)
Cpanel can be confusing at first glance because of all of the options.. most of them you really dont need unless your setting up a massive website and know alot about web development and numerous scripting languages, other things u can do w/ cpanel.. set up chats, front page extensions, shopping carts, redirect certain pages, edit your error pages, lock directories so u need a password to access them and much much more.. if there's anything specific you would like to know about cpanel pm me |
