Options for setting up an online order form?
Semi programming/semi web site development related
A person has asked me if it would be possible to set up a login on their web page so people could buy something with their credit card. I know this in of itself is possible, but his web page is hosted on a free account his ISP gave him. I'm *pretty sure* that the server technologies needed to set up online orderin with a credit card can't be ran on his free web account.. Are there any web sites that provide a service similar to paypal that could let him set something like this up? Basically certain buyers would be able to get the items at a special price (so the page would be private) and could pay directly with their credit card. I've seen that you can "Send Money" with Paypal, but that requires an account with paypal. What we really want is a direct to the point pay with credit card without the buyer having to have an account with somebody else. Is it possible to set this up? Very difficult? Thanks.. |

The thing is, anything involving credit-card transactions needs to have very tight security, which you probably wouldn't get out of any free products.
Also, you'd probably want SSL and whatnot. So my answer is... I wouldn't really have a clue.... but keep these points in mind.

i agree with MrFlux. i don't think the free ISP account will cut it.
doteasy [ http://www.doteasy.com ] has a hosting plan for $7.95 a month that is e-commerce ready. a demo of it (osCommerce) is at: [ http://www.samplesite.org/shop/catalog/default.php ]. it's an open source e-commerce solution. no licensing, no fees. that might be your ticket. i use doteasy for all my webhosting and registration needs. i do not have any experience with this e-commerce stuff, but it's worth the look. i highly recommend doteasy.

Actually, if you want to use PayPal, all it takes is a form that they fill out on your form, which then posts to PayPal. All the security and payment business happens over at paypal.com, and then when the transaction is done, PayPal notifies you about it.
Now, PayPal sucks, compared to an actual ecommerce solution with real credit card processing. That's what I do for a living--setting up people with sites that sell things and charge credit cards. Iif you'd like to talk with me about how I can help with this, PM me. |
