Looking for a Digital Camera
I know there are a CRAP load of these out there. I was just wondering what everyone uses and to see if they like their brand.
I am looking for one maybe around 350 bones and up. What are some of the things to look for. Like zoom etc.etc.etc. Next, buy on the internet or maybe walmart? Where i live i dont have a mall or any big brand name stores. Walmart and Kmart is it for me. Thanks in advance. |

I've been looking at digi cams too, I want to go with something by canon. I'm prolly going to go with the digital elph. My friend has one and the picture quality is amazing. Not to mention the camera is pocket size, great to take anywhere.
http://www.powershot.com/powershot2/home.html Check out the site... it has the elph, and the higher end cameras.

I have the Canon Elf S200 & love it because of its size. If course it a few years old & now I think they make the S400 which is 4.0 million megapixles. Make sure you get one that has at least 3X optical zoom. Digital zoom is lame & blurs & distorts the image. Are you looking for a Small camera? do you want a lot of control when it comes to taking shots?

Good Choice, I think you will love it, I saw that they make a s500 now too. Happy shooting. Make sure you by at least a 128MB Memory card for it, its worth the extra $$ & you will be able to get about 100 pictures on it as opposed to 15 or so on the one it comes with.

I love my S400. the size and phote quality are outstanding.
I tip for all you Canon users. I ran into a lot of corrupted images when I changed cards (I bought a 128k cheapie). I contacted Canon to determine who was the vendor for the OEM "Canon" cards and learned that it was SanDisk. As soon as I went to a SanDisk Ultra 256k card ...... no more corrupt images. FYI |

speaking of cameras (out of the price range in the first post), after reading about it here I was looking at websites discussing the Nikon D70 - very nice looking. I have personally played with the Canon EOS Digital or whatever that is called precisely but would rather spend a a bit more on the Nikon now if I was able to buy either one right now.
My G2 is very functional but just the thought of a true fast SLR shutter with my current compact flash cards excites me.

I use the Olympus C-3040 model. It's a great, compact, full feature camera with as many variable settings and modes that you could possibly need as an amature hack picture taker. I love the camera. It's not the shirt pocket size like some of the models out there but it's a great camera for the money. The flash is SUPER bright and with a 3.3 mega pixel image you get remarkable clarity.
I think there are newer models than the C-3040 out there now but I really like this one.

BTW, if you're interested in a used Nikon Coolpix 990, I may have to make selling it part of deal to sway the little woman.

Dont buy the Pentax Optio 555. I bought one over the holidays and am not really happy with it.
The pictures are crystal clear (5 megapixels) but the delay time between snapping a photo and waiting for the camera to reset is waaaayy too long. Takes about 1-2 seconds for a shot and 2-5 seconds to be ready for another shot. was just at the Long Beach grand prix and boy, was that delay incredibly frustrating. |

Which camera would you guys choose between the Canon powershot G5 and the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-V1? I'm looking for a pretty nice camera with a good megapixel range, but I don't want it too be too bulky or heavy. Thanks for the input in advance.

Powershot G5 also. Take a look at the new A80 by Canon too. I really like this one as well.

I just got the Powershot S1 IS. It's only 3.2 megapixels, which if you're mostly taking them to be viewed on the computer screen is plenty good, but the 10x zoom lens and high-res video is fantastic!
makes me wish I had a better memory card...

I have a Sony that does not use cards or sticks.....it burns to 156MB CD-R's and CD-RW's. The discs are incredibly cheap and can be found anywhere computers are sold.
It makes the camera a bit bigger, but I love the discs so much that it has made it more than worth the trade-off..... |

Just bought the S410. Really no difference with the S400, except this has a printer/share button on the back that I won't use, and I hear it might be a little faster in some modes. Anyway, I got it from Dell for a little over $300, so I'm happy.

Whatever your choices are, pick one with the highest mega pixel, OPTICAL, not digital zoom. And make sure it has USB (2.0 preferred).
Walmart is fine but I'd check Bestbuy, Circuit City websites and look for current rebates on digi cams. I have always had good luck with mail in rebates. It'd take a few weeks but you can save more that way. Check out pricewath: http://www.pricewatch.com/ Before you place an order, check out the store review posted by previous buyers. Watch out for stores i NY, lots of scams out there! sashime76 |
