KaZaaLite K++ is apparently still in development, although the name has changed. Check out more here:

I probably should have just edited my earlier post, but I thought this thread could use a bump.
I disproved my own theory - I copied all my Kazaa files (at work) onto a CD and loaded them on my computer at home - I figured if I had the existing files from the db folder, it would work just like at work. Long story short - no deal - it knew it was on a new computer - even popped up the settings window and asked for a username and e-mail. Oh well - I guess I'll just have to get the newer version. As an aside - I downloaded emule today to give it a try. I was getting impossibly low download speeds (like 2 kbs). One file will download in 7 days, 21 hours if I leave my computer on. No thanks.

I think Shareaza is what more people are going to want:
---------------- http://www.shareaza.com/ ---------------- "Shareaza is the most luxurious and sophisticated file sharing system you'll find. It can harness the power of up to four separate peer-to-peer (P2P) networks, including EDonkey2000, Gnutella, BitTorrent and Shareaza's native network, Gnutella2 (G2). Not only that, but Shareaza is completely FREE and won't show any annoying ads or pop-ups. It won't install any unwanted third party programs that can wreak havoc with your computer. No spyware, no registration, no "paid version". Just download and use. Simple."

DC++ is the way to go. There are private and public hubs, but the private ones (password-protected) can be huge. I've seen some hubs with about 100 users, but with an average share of 150-200 GB, with some sharing over 700 GB. That's just music! There are hubs for mp3, FLAC, ogg, movies, you name it.

Nonetheless, eMule IS slower than Kazaa. The reason the people who like it better than Kazaa feel the way they do is that with eMule if you use it correctly with sites like sharereactor then you have an almost 0% chance of incomplete or fake files.

I have K++ on a couple of machines already. When I heard the news that they were going after the sites that host the install I immediately started hunting for the install, since I no longer had it anywhere. It took me about 20 minutes to find a Polish language version and about 2+ hours to find the english version. So, it's out there, but going fast. If you want it, move quickly.
