help with links to windows updates??
hi
i'm interested in downloading some of the major windows xp updates, but outside of the proper windows update program. i would love to have these permanently saved on my comp for when i reinstall, so i don't have to wait for w.u. to dl the files every time. i have found a couple of things on the M$ support pages, but am hoping that somebody has a nice collection of links to some/any of the biggies: SP1, bigger security bundles for IE, etc... thanks! |

Are you unable to find them at http://download.microsoft.com? I'm pretty sure you can d/l the main files that way, unless they have changed the set up.
Here, hopefully this will help .. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

ok, thanks for that second link. one question though - when you do the sp1 express from windows update, it downloads that (approx) 1.8mb file, then connects to another server and downloads some huge-ass set of files to do the actual install.
am i remembering this right? any way to get those other files? sorry if i sound like a lazy ass, i just honestly have had trouble searching that windows download site! |

yah I just have all my updates for XP/2000 burned to a cd so i don't have to worry about grabbing 'em again...
also, there's a command-line tool from microsoft called hfnetchk that will tell you what updates your system needs...then you can download them individually from download.microsoft.com i probably use that more than windows update... also remember, that after you get sp1a you should run windowsupdate again to get the more recent patches, but your required downloads will be much smaller. keep those systems patched ![]() |
