How much RAM do you currently have, and what type is it? And how many GBs of storage do you currently have?

Yeah, it totally depends on what you need. If it has been slowing down, or you just want a bit more speed, get the RAM. If you need more room to keep stuff (pr0n ), get another hard drive.

I'd get more RAM, but not more than an extra 512 MB. If you're gonna use it for gaming, then over 1-1.5 GB can actually bog the system down in some cases. If you're gonna do video editing or encoding, then you could get away with more than that.

I'd also like to add that getting a new 512 MB stick of PC3200 or PC4000 (if your motherboard and processor can support it) would increase your system power moreso than adding another 512 MB of PC2700. In today's world, faster RAM is much more powerful than larger quantities of less-powerful RAM.

actually if you are gamin there is nothing sweeter than a pc with 1.5+ gigs of ram,

friend has one with 3 gigs, its beautiful,

512 for normal use, then he has a nice 2.5 gig ram drive, the levels, models, maps, load upm so damn fast for his top 3 or so most played games its sick.

i only have a 512mb ram(1 gig total, hal ram drive other half normal use) drive and i would never go back.

tho with only a 512 ram drive i can't have all of my games loading from it, i do have all my mmost commonly played CS and DoD maps loading from it.

so to sum it up, if u need more hd space, u have no choice but to get another hd,

else get more ram and make a ram drive for gaming(if you so incline)

What's the point of that? CS is definitely not ram intensive by today's standard. And why bother wasting money on a "ram drive" to be able to load cs a few seconds faster, and have to wait for other players to connect for a few seconds each time there's a new map, he'd have to waste MINUTES copying all that data to the ram drive every time he boots up.

RAM caps out on most of today's games. I've found that 768 MB of RAM is about the limit needed for games today. It may change next year, but it won't change *that* much. Hell, There was no difference in 3d Mark 2001 scores when I upgraded from 512 MB to 768. 512 MB is the amount that I'd make a requirement and 1 GB the max. Going over 1 GB just for gaming is overkill by far.

The 512 point is where windows stops using ram effictively. Buying more...well, it's up to you to consider it a complete waste of $$.

I'd buy the HD.

By the way, tigerdirect is consistantly more expensive than newegg.com.

Only go to tiger if you LIKE paying more money for no reason at all.

no - i meant a physically removeable HD - one that sits in a CD drive bay and can be physically pulled from the machine like a tape drive, its more for mass transfer quicker between PCs and my server
