Cisco Certifications
I'm currently in the final stages of wrapping up studying for my CCNA certification. I am curious if anyone else here has taken the 640-607 exam and has any advice to offer is a CCNA in general.
Also, out of curiousity, what is the average salaries for netadmins with CCNAs versus those without? My overall goal is to get my CCIE, perhaps in Routing&Switching or else Security, and want to know as much as possible before I head out to get this stuff.

I got my CCNA in 2001.
My biggest gripe was how the questions were posed. Several answers could be right, but which answer is best? Those type of questions pissed me off. Anyway, my advice would be know everything there is to know about subnetting, CIDR, and the damn notation for ISDN devices. |

I know subnetting and CIDR down cold, my main issue is that I don't have access to any Cisco hardware, nor do I have the time (or money) to take a course, so I'm very shaky on IOS. I managed to borrow a few virtual labs off a coworker who's already CCNA certified and am teaching myself that.
How much in depth does the test go on IOS? Also, how much is there on access-lists, LMI, and frame-relay? (more areas I'm shaky on)

Man, its been so long since I've taken the tests that its hard to remember. I don't think it went too indepth into IOS commands themselves, but I'd still try to know what I could.
Some of the Cisco sales offices used to let people drop by and play with their lab equipment once a week. You might try to find out who your local rep/SE is and ask if they still do that. |

Thanks for the advice on the Boson tests - I grabbed the freely available ones and did took those - scored fairly well, about 70% (not bad for not knowing IOS and a few other parts).

Im deathly afraid to go take my ccna...I Know the material and can do all the stuff, but when it comes to the stupid wording that cisco comes up with i get a major brain fart, and its not like i wanna keep spending like what is it, 150 bux? each time i make an oops and have to retake it.
O yea, and from everyone I have talked to that have taken it recently...There are actually quite a few IOS commands on the test. This is only from what ive heard tho. |

One thing I've heard, no idea if it's true or not, is that the test is programmed to take advantage of what you're weak in -- if you miss a few questions on CIDR, for example, it will toss a few more at you. I hope that's not true, or else that I manage to learn everything possible before the 640-607 test is discontinued.
