Garmin 60CSx GPS
Anyone else here use a GPS from Garmin? I used to have a Magellan unit. It seemed a lot more user friendly, too bad it kept frying on me. Anyway I can't seem to upload or download data with this unit. I use the USB cable and software that came with the unit, my laptop sees it and seems to recognize it just fine. But uploading a route or saved location or downloading anything to the unit is seemingly an endless circle. Or what I'm now calling a complete mind fuck.
Short of taking a college course on this I'm lost. Any one know anything about these units?

Tully: what OS do you use on your computer? I had a Garmin GPS wristwatch for running. It worked great with XP - totally crashed out with Vista. Incidentally, the fucking thing exploded on my arm one day. No damage done to this little piggy, but it just sort of fell apart after about a year or so. Generally, they're pretty good, and I'm sure I just had a dud. I saved $150 buying it on Ebay, so no warranty to get a new one.
For your problem, I guess my only question is about the OS.

I'm using Vista (which I think everyone knows now sucks) but the documentation and Garmin's web site it's completely Vista compatable.
I loved my Magellan it just blew up three times and I got tried of sending it in for warranty repairs. With shipping and taxes back into Mexico it became cheaper just to buy a new unit.

I spent sometime last night (while not sleeping) going through my manual. I still have no idea how to get data in and out of the laptop. But I did find a couple interesting features I was unaware of. Seems this unit has a "Jump Master" function for skydiving. I read over the instructions of how to make use of this feature. One of the first things I noticed was among the variables you need to enter was "impact point." I've been known to jump out of an airplane. I've never done so with an "impact point" in mind. Landing zone, landing point sound good... impact point doesn't sound right at all.

i have a garmin handheld mapping gps as well... you will want to install garmin mapsource with the related drivers, you should have CD's that have come with the packaging, or download the most recent version from garmin's site... inside mapsource, you can manage waypoints and create routes and handle your maps if you have any, then there are two icons with arrows on the top tool bar, one to send and one to receive data.
it's a little odd at first, but once you figure it out, it's really friendly and easy to use... mapsource even has a export to google earth button, it is really fun to view your routes in google earth. if you need further direction, let me know
