Viewing Official Online content from outside the U.S.
So the pinheads at ABC went and unceremoniously cancelled one of my favourite shows.
Apparently they're going to put the remaining episodes online, but when I go to ABC's viewing page, I get the message "Only viewers within the United States can watch these full-length episodes." Here's the link: http://dynamic.abc.go.com/streaming/landing Is there anyway around this restriction or am I out of luck? To those who do have access to ABC content, what format are the episodes in? Is it streaming or downloadable content? /I'm from Canada, eh.

the episodes are in video flash, .flv files more than likely.
If you can find a US proxy you may be able to get past their simple IP checks.

you can try the us proxy rout, it should work, but.... its also posible the the transfer rate will be to low to realy alow you to watch the shows.
I watch most of my tv online now, from the site you listed and from NBC's similar site. with the right programs you can download flash like this that was never meant to be downloaded. I dont do it very often but when I do I use an add on to firefox called unplug.

I'm interested in the proxy method, but know nothing about it.
Is it easy to do and undo? Will it screw up my email address? A simple google search turned up several Anonymous proxy server sites and I imagine that some are a bit shady. Any suggestions here?

I sometimes use anonymouse to thwart ip checkers. I've never had any problems with them or they're service. there is no sign up required or any personal info ever given to them. I opened the abc viewer with it to check and it seemed to load the front page ok although it was horribly slow. I don't know if there are faster servers available.
I should think though that they should all be safe as long as they don't require allot of personal info from you to use the service.
